+80 Camping makes no sense, amirite?

The people who do it value other things over comfort. For some it's the views of natural beauty, for some its the peace and quiet of being somewhere off the beaten path, for some it's the satisfaction of doing something challenging or out of their comfort zone. It's just not for you, which is fine.

Do you think the outdoors is nice? Do you like trees? Fresh air? The night sky? Any of that? Just extrapolate on those feelings for a hint at a reason that some people enjoy camping

Extrapolate

I like all that but still hate camping. I rather take a nice hike maybe and spend the night in a hotel or at home. Enjoy a bonfire with friends then go inside and not have to sleep on the ground

To enjoy the outside, have some freedom from the daily grind, etc.

It's about relaxing "off the grid." Proper preparation makes the experience completely enjoyable. If you are a diehard city slicker, it's not for you

Because being inside sucks

Just being out in nature is a good mental reset. It gives an adventurous feeling and is a great way to forget about the rat race that is society, even if just briefly.

It's so people can have fun outdoors and it's a fun activity, there are so many reasons why people love camping and I love it too. People like you don't understand camping because you guys are too busy leaving luxury and being snobby. Camping allows you to have fun, freedom and experience the outdoors.

Makes lots of sense to me, city boy. You go in the woods, hang out in nature. It helps to be near water. It's quiet. I mean, to each his own, go ahead and hate camping, but maybe you want to try it first.

If camping at the edge of a vast canyon, in an area with no cell signal, with your closest people, as you appreciate the simple pleasures of making and sharing food over a fire, drinking beers as you collectively wonder when was the last time you saw that many stars in the sky, hearing a stillness that vaporizes all daily anxieties, and waking up to a glorious sunrise which reveals magnificent colors in the canyon makes no sense to you then I don't know what to tell you.

I spent a year sleeping outside. ( Willingly up on a mountain pass ) When I moved back into a bedroom with 4 walls... It was very difficult sleeping well. You've been conditioned over time to be comfortable like you are. Just because it's what you're used to doesn't mean it's the way it's always been.

I do it because it allows me to detox from being in front of a computer screen for hours on end due to my job and social media.

Sounds like you're talking about going to a developed campground near a city or town. Many people camp to get to areas far away without spending the entire time driving. There are many areas you will never get to spend time and explore if you need to travel at least a few hours back to a place to sleep after.

Lots of people like camping, but also lots of people hate camping. Not unpopular.

I agree it's cosplaying as homeless. Its very uncomfortable and inconvenient. I hate camping

by Dear_Mastodon 4 days ago

I dont disagree about the cosplaying part. It kind of is. Its a useful reset to how insulated our normal lives are

Not for me. I've tried several times and just can't get down with it. I need running hot water, in door plumbing and a mattress. Like in an apocalypse I wouldn't even try and survive. That world is not a world I want to live in. No electricity no thanks
