+52 I am firm in my belief that Jim Carrey is one of those actors who are not funny but everyone else thinks he is. amirite?

by hledner 4 days ago

Maybe, then why would he be awarded prizes for being funny, there must be a metric for it, or were other actors worse?

by hledner 4 days ago

That is not sound logic at all.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Because the majority of audiences found him funny how is this hard to grasp

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I didn't say it wasn't

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Because awards don't always go to the funniest people, however, Jim Carrey is one of, if not THE, greatest absurdist comedians. His wild overreactions are the source of his popularity, and idk anyone who does it better

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I guess its a popular opinion, 420 people liked it

His talent really showed when he was on the cast of "In Living Color". That was actually the catalyst for quite a few comedy actors (Carrey, David Allen Grier, Wayans brothers, Jamie Foxx). If you haven't checked out that show yet, maybe give it a try.

by Brucelittle 4 days ago

He was so funny in In Living Color, but he also did a good acting job in that show.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I could give it a try but I won't keep my hopes up

by hledner 4 days ago

I feel the same way with him and Will Ferrell

by Anonymous 4 days ago

He is up there too

Adam Sandler is my version of this. Untalented and about as funny as a colonoscopy.

by Obvious-Image 4 days ago

Adam Sandler's humor somewhat derives from just how shamelessly, tastelessly, fearlessly silly he can manage to be. He's the comedian version of "so bad it's good". And he still only gets there around half the time. Like Jim Carrey, he is also a talented actor who can turn it on when he desires.

Carrey is fine if the vehicle is appropriate. The Sonic franchise for example is perfect for him. He elevates the movies. Not a fan of his Ace Ventura shtick now but as a 12 year old it was hilarious. He ruined the Grinch though, my God that movie is awful. Truman Show is the outlier. That's movie rocks and he does a great job.

Too many films with no acting range, kind of like Gal Gadot and the Rock

by hledner 3 days ago

He's the one actor that's made me cry laugh the most in my life. I'm not a very mature person, so I guess that figures.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Jim Carrey is relying on exaggeration, it will always be cringe for many people. He is at the same time probably the best in this type of comedy.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I guess that makes sense, then I am not a fan of cringey acting

by hledner 3 days ago

I don't find him funny either but that's a matter of taste. And your own title proves you wrong. He is funny because other people thinks he is. He is funny to them. The better way to phrase it is I" don't find Jim carrey funny."

by Imaginary_South 3 days ago

Agreed. He is a bore.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

How do you define "funny"?

by No_Street_7849 3 days ago

Within comedy, almost whatever the opposite of his acting is

by hledner 3 days ago

He hasn't even done a movie in ages. Why are you perseverating on him

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Again… hes not even doing anything now and you felt compelled to bring him up? Its strange

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Its just random

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Seems random to bring up a 90s comic lol

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Do you not think Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber is funny? Because to me that about as funny as it gets.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Haven't seen it, but I'll give it a try

by hledner 3 days ago

Depends on what type of comedy you like . Exaggerated or sophisticated comedy. Also what movies of him have you watched?

by raymond05 3 days ago

What about his performance as Count Olaf? I laughed for months straight when he says his line, "Captain Sham, at your service"

by Impressive-Wind-8450 3 days ago

Agree, he's all facial tics and screaming, not funny at all.
