And vegan sausage obviously isn't real sausage - no one is claiming that it is, it's about communicating meaning. What else would they call sugar-free caramel? When people look to buy sugar-free caramel, that's what they're going to call it. Not something else because you're pedantic and don't understand why we use words in that way.

The main and typically only ingredient in caramel is sugar Have you ever actually made caramel? Or even just looked at a recipe for it? If you try to make caramel with sugar as the only ingredient, you end up with… sugar. Not caramel.
