+66 A lot of people are upset about Superman being an illegal alien, wait until they realise he's solar powered. amirite?

Back in my day, Superman was a real man, powered by diesel and whisky /s

by Scary_Gain196 3 days ago

Pretty sure that was John Wayne my guy

by Bashirianjosian 3 days ago

Pretty sure they are referring to George Reeves (black and white superman). The guy could be a serious drunk. Remember seeing a clip where all the actors just look toward camera cause Reeves was very smashed, and they didn't know to continue filming or what.

So you say we should import more Supermen from Krypton to prevent global warming?

by Anonymous 3 days ago

And why did Krypton blow up? It was mined to death. DRILL BABY DRILL!!

I had Superman underoos. It came with a cape that was discontinued because kids were wearing it to sleep and would choke out. If I had that set today, it would be worth at least $7 on eBay

Are people upset that he's an "illegal alien"? I've seen tons of people say this, but I haven't actually seen anyone bitching about it.

Wait until they find out Superman is fiction...

In a roundabout way, aren't we all solar powered?

Action Comics #900 - Superman renounced his U.S. citizenship. He wasn't illegal.

If a white presenting Mexican baby was brought into the USA and raised as an American born individual with citizenship documents issued under false pretenses (like Superman) and this was found out decades after the fact… would he be considered a legitimate citizen of the USA? Or would all his documents be revoked and he be deported or imprisoned?

Okay, I'll continue to play "let's pretend Superman is real". Clark Kent has been a U.S. citizen since his arrival on earth, either by the provision of a birth certificate and social security number by local authorities when the Kents claimed to have had him at home during the winter at their remote Smallville farm or the adoption decree of the Smallville judge when the infant was judged and orphan and claimed by the Kents.

We already too pissed off he isn't Henry Cavill to worry about that silly nonsense

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Henry is too dour for a light-hearted, Saturday morning cartoon vibe like the movie gives

I used to read my dad's old comics he'd collected, original Jimmy Olson, original Detective Comics, original Superman. This movie felt like those pages come to life. There was often a Kaiju, some wonky sci-fi nonsense, and hamfisted humour that felt so out of place. Superman getting angry that people were more concerned about politics than human lives is the Superman I grew up with. This might be one of the best Superman movies yet.

Nah, cavill is many things, but he is not Supes.

I think he could have done it with a different set of scripts. He managed light comedy quite well in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. That said, it wouldn't have worked if he'd done a handbrake turn into it after the Snyder stuff, so a change was definitely the right choice.

No one is upset about Superman being an alien, let alone an illegal one. He also wasn't illegal, as he was adopted by an American family as a baby. Some of the documentation might have been a little sketchy, but that happens sometimes even in real life when people adopt kids from foreign countries that don't keep good records.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

It wasn't a little bit sketchy it was faked, so full fraud.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

He wasn't technically adopted by the family because there is no way the previous parents could sign away their rights in an American Court of law. They just found him and pretended he was theirs. If that's the case I guess all we got to do for all the kids and American countries that want to come to us find American adults to live with when they get here and then they're automatically American.

Depends on which continuity we're talking about. In some versions, Jor-el went to scout out Earth and specifically chose Smallville and the Kents to send his son. Also, considering Clark/Kal-el's an orphan and his native government no longer exists, it would definitely create a legal grey area. At least in the Smallville tv show the Kents told people that Clark was adopted. How that process was handled is a little ambiguous, though I'm sure there is a way to deal with "john doe" babies.
