+87 Dirty soda is gross—and honestly, so is regular soda... amirite?

Drink your big black cow and get outta here.

by Appropriate-List-297 3 days ago

if you don't like regular soda then you're for sure not going to like dirty soda though

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Lmao exactly like who would say "non-alcoholic beer is disgusting. But I hate regular beer" Obviously.

by Clean-Steak6000 3 days ago

Yeah - I am Zero Sugar soda drinker and this sounds weird and kind of gross to me.

by edwardschroeder 3 days ago

i only drink diet soda but a splash of creamer in a diet doctor pepper is like a nice little dessert every once in a while

by Anonymous 3 days ago

A coke float isn't healthy but it's amazing if you've a sweet tooth. Not an everyday thing obviously.

by Open-Reception 3 days ago

Flat soda is ten times worse. You see how sweet it really is

by Healthy_Beginning656 3 days ago

I mean, it's not "how it really is." It's sweetened to the level it needs to be beating in mind the carbonation is going to be bitter. You aren't revealing the hidden flavor of soda when you drink it flat, you're just doing it wrong.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

The beatings will continue until the carbonation is no longer bitter.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

The carbonation is added to mask the sugar. The sugar is added to mask the caffeine. Kind of a neat invention back when they were first introduced.

by Euphoric_Tone7171 3 days ago

Its really the acids they add that make it bitter.. phosphoric acid i think specifically

by Downtown-Candy8782 3 days ago

Oof not me preferring flat soda. It's like sprite juice it bangs.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

"Dirty soda" is gross, one of my coworkers introduced me to it, it seems like just another fad food. It's weird and doesn't taste good.

by leora90 3 days ago

Just because something is a fad doesn't mean it didn't exist before it became a fad though? Stanley cups were around before they were a fad. 3D movies were a fad (more than once!) despite being around for a long time, etc etc.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Its not a bad. Its a Mormon loop hole to go around coffee and teas. That's why companies like swig are growing fast

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I just can't do an actual cream soda. I like root beer, but I think what I like in soda is lightness. Diet, not zero, mtn dew is my fav for that reason.

This person only drinks water, coffee, or GASP SPARKLING WATER? I aspire to be like them.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I was referring to the Steve Austin meme you used - relax babe, it's not that deep.

by Appropriate-List-297 3 days ago

Go be boring somewhere else

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Dirty soda was bound to taste terrible if you didn't like regular soda to begin with. Yes I drink it on purpose, but I tend to drink diet or zero sugar versions because I find regular to be too sweet in adulthood.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I know you aren't on here trashing Shirley temples

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Can't bring myself to try it for this exact reason. If I want to customize a carbonated drink, I like Italian soda/cream soda.

by Decent_Hunter 3 days ago

I don't really see a difference between dirty soda as OP describes it and an Italian cream soda.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

The base is the difference. Sparkling water or club soda is very different than Dr. Pepper or some other soda.

by Decent_Hunter 3 days ago

But… It's still syrup and sparkling water and cream. It's just in the case of Dr Pepper the syrup is already mixed in.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Much less syrup.

by Decent_Hunter 2 days ago

Fair enough! I definitely think they would all taste better if they had less syrup. I've gotten into cutting lemonade or a citrus soda with plain soda water and it's so much better. I'm not sure if it would be as good with one of the colas or other brown drinks.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The sparkling lemonade sounds really good! I wish I could figure out how to make my own cola syrup so I could control the sugar to flavor ratio. I make my own flavored simple syrups sometimes so I can add more fruit and get my bang for my buck as it were. Last time I made lavender syrup, I barely had to add any to the base.

by Decent_Hunter 2 days ago

I do the same - but I use soda water. Less sugar + less empty calories.

by Appropriate-List-297 2 days ago

What's that drink that Marshall orders at the diner on Eerie Indiana? I always wanted to try that as a kid.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I haven't watched that show in years. Do you remember anything else about it?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Never had a dirty soda. But yea, RFK will have to rip a coke out of my cold dead hands

by Clean-Steak6000 2 days ago

Codeine in my sprite make me feel alright

by Technical_Cod 2 days ago

The amount of sugar blows my mind

by conncordie 2 days ago

Soda already has enough sugar or even a sweet taste. I don't need to add creamer to it

by Few-Net-656 2 days ago

I take it you have never been to Utah...

by Appropriate-List-297 2 days ago

Apparently it is big in Utah and with Mormons. They are only allowed to have cold caffeine (like soda) and not hot caffeine - no coffee.

by edwardschroeder 2 days ago

Nothing to do with caffeine. Just hot drinks. The fact soda is allowed but iced tea or coffee is just a weird quirk of mormonnism. It's a religion filled with weird quirks. Jesus lives on a planet called Kolob and good Mormon men get their own planets and become gods when they die.

by Commercial-Lie2760 2 days ago

Interesting.

by edwardschroeder 2 days ago

Religion is so weird.

by Common-Prompt-7829 2 days ago

Regardless of things they may or may not drink, they are a strange bunch, like Catholics

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It's not just big with Mormons though. As people have said, it's at almost as old as soda itself. When I was in introduced to the concept it was called "Italian soda." I was skeptical but it was delicious. Strawberry and cream is a good one to start with.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That's called dirty soda? Is that a thing? I've never heard the term.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Gone by many names over 100+ years now. Been a thing since soda fountains were a thing.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I'm with you on this! I hate soda because it feels like I'm just drinking pure sugar. My only exceptions are Diet Coke or Italian soda (with or without cream). Everything else is crazy

by Cautious_Edge 2 days ago

Only love like sinas with no bubbles, can't have carbonated drinks, but drinking that is even rare for me. From the soda's then. And this is only since a few years, before that i never drinked more than a few sips, to find out its too heavy on my tongue.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Never heard of it. But, it's basically creamer and soda. Closest I'll get to that, I guess, would be a root beer float.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yeah - I have just learned what this is and it is a hard pass for me. I only drink zero sugar sodas anyway.

by edwardschroeder 2 days ago

I can't do zero sugar it has a weird aftertaste

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Pretty sure this trend started to sell overpriced drinks to Mormons, who won't drink coffee drinks. I don't mind soda, and I don't mind lattes, but they are not meant to be combined. Sodas work because the sugar masks the bitterness of the caffeine, and the carbonation masks the sweetness of the sugar. Similarly, the milk and sugar in coffee drinks mask the bitterness of the coffee bean caffeine. Throwing cream into soda just makes it unbearably rich.

by Euphoric_Tone7171 2 days ago

Trend perhaps, but drinks like this have existed ever since soda water was invented.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I agree with you. Soda is so sugary and gross, I don't understand how people drink it daily. Adding more sugar like you mentioned is too much. The only soda I occasionally have is a ginger ale if my stomach is upset.

by weimannamira 2 days ago

How do you feeling about sparkinling water?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That sounds nauseating Some people put nuts in their soda or candy to "spice things up". A root beer float is the max for me. I can't bring myself to be popping m&Ms and Skittles and honey Peanuts in there god yuckkkk

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I just had a slushy made with Ski, regional soda similar to Mountain Dew (but superior!) I ordered it Beach style with coconut and a little bit of half-and-half. It was super delicious. But it was also gross because it was so much sugar. It was a 16 ounce glass I think I drank about a third of it over an hour. So…yes and no.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Never heard of dirty soda, but since I don't like regular soda, I'm assuming I wouldn't like it either. I also prefer water, coffee and sparkling water as well as the occasional plain tea.

by Haunting_Scheme 2 days ago

I have one 12oz Dr pepper with my dinner everyday. I'm really not looking to live to be 85. Besides I usually drink water all day anyway. I also almost never consume sugary foods, so Dr. Pepper is really my only big source of sugar. I'm well aware it's not good for you, I just don't care. I don't want to live to 85. I low-key don't really want to now lmao

by Happy-Kitchen 2 days ago

If it burns your throat and does whatever the hell you're describing to your teeth, you aren't drinking soda, you're drinking acid.

by mdickinson 2 days ago

Never heard the term dirty soda, but coke with some grenadine or cherry syrup is better than cherry coke itself.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It's just liquid candy. Imagine at a restaurant that when asked what to drink, you said Skittles. We essentially are doing that with soda. It's more of a candy than beverage.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The only times soda should be mixed with something else is for a rum & coke or a root beer float.

by heidenreichona 2 days ago

What's the stance on root beer floats?

by assuntarowe 2 days ago

Diet Root Beer and a table spoon of Heavy Cream gives you the flavor - I used to drink them when I was doing carb cycling

by turnerkyla 2 days ago

I drink diet coke because regular is punishingly sweet. I would love half sweet soda. Same with a flavored latte. I want caramel or whatever to add another flavor not mask the existing flavor with a pound of sugar. For all the moaning about obesity in America and telling people not to drink soda, I have to imagine if we just cut the sugar in half people would still drink it.

by Fair_Question 2 days ago

You say chemicals like everything isn't chemicals... Also if regular soda is burning your throat perhaps you've got a sensitivity or allergy? That's not normal. I'm not a fan of extra stuff in my soda, I less it's a float on a hot day, either but you make it sound like torture to drink lol

by Anonymous 2 days ago

What about old school? Soda water mixed with cream and flavored syrup (Italian soda)? I know not much different, but better flavor than the coke and cream or Dr Pepper and cream etc.

by Party_Guarantee4437 2 days ago

I agree with dirty soda but normal pop is fine. I've cut back significantly and mainly just drink water or coffee at this point but I still enjoy a nice cherry Pepsi on occasion. I have no idea what you mean by teeth wearing sweaters? It sound like you have an issue with your enamel that you should seek out a dentist to look at.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Never heard of dirty soda. That's a thing? Ever since I found sparking water regular soda seems absolutely insane to me. Pretty much the only reason I drink it is if I'm hungover, which is pretty rare.

by Financial_Bar 2 days ago

You're not wrong lol

by Appropriate-List-297 2 days ago

Does anyone who doesn't spend 2+ hours/day on TikTok even know what "dirty soda" is?

by Homenicknaomi 2 days ago

Sounds disgusting.
