Bandwagoning a really good sports team is better than being loyal to a terrible sports team, amirite?

For real. It'd be like having lobster all the time back in the colonial days. Like cool, but you have no frame of reference for how cool it COULD be. Either way, it's a great unpopular opinion.

Idk there are some teams out there that are terrible for the entire period of someone's life and some people sadly don't live to old age

Life isn't about the destination, it's the journey.

You are an elite level cornball for this take.

You have to base your fandom on something, don't you? To get the thrill of your team's victory. There has to be some reason why you are connected to them.

Band wagon jumpers are the absolute worst fans.

No, I was a lions fan when they were 0-16. I'll drink the blue cool aide until I'm dead.

As a long-term fan of one team in baseball, but a bandwagon fan in other sports, I think you might be onto something. If you're not going to invest years in following one team, the best way to enjoy watching a sporting event (especially a tournament, like Wimbledon or the Final Four) is to pick a "horse," learn about them, jump on the bandwagon and cheer for them to go all the way.

Loyalty is a value most humans hold dear.

At that point, you're more a fan of the sport than any individual team and that's okay. In some cases it might be better because a lot of disgruntled fans take things way too far. Fans generally though stay loyal to a team because they feel a particular connection.

I grew up a fan of the NY Giants. During my youth (1970s) they were terrible. When they won their first Super Bowl it was so much sweeter having stuck with them all those years.

Or just not paying attention to millionaires doing exercises.

I don't get the loyalty. My Dad has been a Chicago Bears fan since he was a kid. Did the Bears do something to earn his respect? Did they save him from a fire? Have the players on the team or coaches been there since he was a kid? The only thing consistent has been the ownership more or less, which has been terrible. If he wanted to watch sloppy football or blowouts he could just watch college or high school games.

Teams? I just like to watch them make the ball go.

I mean… how can you genuinely change your feelings like that? I have been a life long Notre dame fan born in Columbus Ohio and I can't stand the buckeyes… I could never see myself genuinely "rooting" for them even though they are the clearly better team.. I just don't think most people can just flip a switch and root for a team for no other reason than they're good
