I get calls from bill collectors for bills that aren't even mine. They will call saying I used to live at address that a person also use to live at and where are they and what's their number and all this. And I don't even know the person

Don't sign up for a loan you cant pay back. And there's a grace period in your loan that they give you also. It costs them money to send you to collections so I'm not believing you are a victim here

Companies don't sell off debt for one missed week. They will try for months to make arrangements with you, because they don't want lose a customer. Most of the debt that came across my desk was around a year old, and untouched by previous collectors.

They are paid to do something that others don't want to do, like any job. They are actually paid to receive your rage firsthand. As it turns out, you specifically, the upset debtee, are why debt collectors exist in the first place. Otherwise, the person owed the debt (maybe an elderly landlord) just faces you (possibly a jacked, angry young man, or a gun owner) point blank asking you for thousands of dollars. Dangerous, I'd say.

It absolutely is. The tactics they use to bully people are extremely unethical. There is a lot of lying and fear mongering, but there's also the harassment side. Often financial bullying leads to suicide. Not me, I make good money and can't remember the last time I didn't pay a bill on time, probably 2001 or 2002. But it's a scummy industry that doesn't need to exist, and anyone that works in bill collection is a bad person doing evil acts
