+68 Fast food restaurants aren't family friendly, amirite?

by grantmavis 3 days ago

are you writing this from the mcdonald's parking spot

by Horror_Air_9559 3 days ago

lol, no but I've had experiences like this from there.

> If you dare try to get your order through the drive thru, you will be sent somewhere to park and wait for your order. Not sure I've seen many fast food restaurants advertising that their drive-thru is supposed to be family friendly. What did Ronald McDonald do to hurt you?

by gudrunbeatty 3 days ago

Not sure I've seen many fast food restaurants advertising that their drive-thru is supposed to be family friendly. What's your point? Are you saying drive thrus aren't intended to serve all their customers?

by grantmavis 3 days ago

No, genius, that's not my point. Try reading your own OP again and maybe you'll figure it out.

by gudrunbeatty 3 days ago

You have no point, got it. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

by grantmavis 3 days ago

Are they struggling or did you just order a large order?

by Asiaryan 3 days ago

Family of 6. Don't worry, I have no intention of returning it's so bad.

by grantmavis 3 days ago

So it sounds like families could really benefit from every fast food places now offering various options to order ahead through an app, online or by phone call.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Some people dont want to haul their kids in and out of the car, that's why a drive through is convenient.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

It's not about drive thru, but it makes the experience even worse.

by grantmavis 3 days ago

Drive thru or not, fast food is not family friendly.

by grantmavis 3 days ago

For a mini van full of kids it absolutely is.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Yet - amazingly - every time I go to a fast food place, it's full of families.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Where are you eatig that the wait is 10 minutes?

by Asiaryan 3 days ago

Yesterday, the wait on an online order at Taco Bell for a family of 6 was just shy of 20 minutes. $52 wasted as they were missing items, sauces, and napkins. Nothing was hot so I'm not sure what we were waiting on. Fast food is not family friendly.

by grantmavis 3 days ago

Yeah weher would you sit down and get food in 10 minutes? If things are missing do you not just go get them?

by Asiaryan 3 days ago

The dude feeds his family trash food and then complains about it not being good for the family.

by gudrunbeatty 3 days ago

If i don't have to put on a bra or leave my car and I get hot food handed to me, then fast food has served its purpose. Waiting 10 minutes in a car vs getting all the kids out and sat and ordered and the food made and their entertainment and all that makes fast food still a very convenient option. If you order 5 meals its 2 minutes to make each meal. Very fast imo.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Has OP never worked fast food?

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Burger King better change their slogan then๐Ÿ˜†

by grantmavis 3 days ago

Fast food isn't family friendly anymore slow, overpriced, and not worth it.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

Its not the employees fault. They get timed per transaction. This is what these companies want. Their priority is ensuring the line keeps moving instead of taking so much time preparing your large ass, inconvenient order. Youre barking up the wrong tree here. And if thats too much trouble then yes, stay home and cook or go to Applebees and pay a Comparable price. But you'll still have to wait 15-20 minutes any way

by Anonymous 3 days ago

So ur butthurt cuz u gotta wait and pull aside for ur huge order? Waaaaaa

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I don't see how time or cost makes something less family friendly though

by Loud_Razzmatazz5879 3 days ago

Costliness can absolutely affect how family friendly something is. There's a reason I take my kids to local college games and not to NFL games, etc. I have a lot of mouths to feed over here! Still, kids meals are still pretty hot deals if your kids are kids meal sized.

by Anonymous 3 days ago

I feel like that's just dependent on what you can afford though. There's nothing wrong with that, but I don't think something being expensive makes something inherently not family friendly.

by Loud_Razzmatazz5879 3 days ago

I think it just depends on the restaurant and it's employees. I regularly order food for our family of 7 at our nearest McDonald's and I am very rarely ever parked and typically by the time I get to the window they have all 7 meals and drinks ready to go.

by Proud_Highlight 2 days ago

Definitely the exception, not the rule.

by grantmavis 2 days ago

Have you ever called an order into a fast food restaurant? They rarely want to answer the phone, let alone, take your order.

Fast food restaurants aren't people friendly in general

by Baumbachgarett 2 days ago

Fast Food has great pricing if you use the apps

โ€ฆ the restaurants with literal toys and playgrounds aren't kid friendly? Wtf?

by Financial-Grab3226 2 days ago

Playgrounds? Any that used to be here have been rebuilt without one.

by grantmavis 2 days ago

They park you so their wait times look better for head office, not to actually reduce wait times. Once you're moved you won't be a priority because your car isn't being timed anymore. I worked in fast food when they started introducing that method and I don't think it actually clears line ups much faster in most cases and definitely didn't make things any easier for staff. The only time it felt worth it was when people either ordered items that always took 10+ minutes like veggie burgers, or for giant orders with a whole football team's worth of kids meals. Parking someone for less than a two minute wait wasted more time than it saved as far as I could tell and it's become an absolutely goofy system imo. But that was years ago and not at McDonald's, just my unsolicited two cents.

by Whitenorene 2 days ago

I haven't had fast food in years. I feel so much better, and have saved a fortune. I don't think your opinion is unpopular, it is just that people have a serious misconception of what real food is, and what is really saving time.

these are mostly entry level employees that usually struggle under stressful situations or frankly don't give a rats ass about being quick It seems like the younger crowd working in these places has ZERO short term memory. They forget what you tell them the minute you say it. They can repeat things back to you and STILL screw it up. Some of these fast food registers even use PICTURES to make the order and I've seen kids struggle with that too. As someone who has liked fast food since I was a kid... the employees REGULARLY ruin the experience. The food is rarely the problem.

by Darrion25 2 days ago

it's an entry level job full of teenagers who are, more often than not, balancing more than one task at a time. for someone young and working a job for the first time, this isn't easy. for example, when working drive thru at my old job, i'd often be cashing out the person at the window while they talk to me, trying to take the order at drive thru, while also communicating with my coworkers on the line and making sure i hand out everything for the right order. this isn't to mention the stress corporate puts on all of its employees to make sure they complete orders in x amount of seconds (usually 120-150 seconds in my experience, so not very long). yes, sometimes it's easy to forget what you're just told when trying to balance three different conversations and do multiple physical tasks. but it doesn't cost anything to be patient

I bet OP went to a McDonalds during rush hour and is blaming the employees. That and/or they went with kids that were jumping on and off tables and chairs and someone asked the kids politely to not do that.
