+80 The toilet seat should be closed after every time anyone uses the toilet, and it has nothing to do with gender. amirite?

by EmptyPsychology1952 1 day ago

I'm a guy who shares an employee bathroom with only other guys and I'm super impressed the lid is always down when I walk in there.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

they pee in sink

Rolled a lucky 20

by dokeefe 1 day ago

I straight up do not understand people who don't put the lid all the way down when not in use. That's how it always is in my home. And I live alone.

by Dry_Barracuda 1 day ago

Man, yes. I live alone and constantly do the same. I've got my son on it too. It's disgusting not to.

by LazyShine4930 1 day ago

Theoretically speaking this is just true and not an opinion. But people are lazy so the most you can hope for is the toilet seat.

by Emotional_Day_3092 1 day ago

It actually doesn't matter at all though if you actually care about facts. This has been studied

by Smooth_Ad 1 day ago

Are you referring to the Myth Busters episode?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

No sir

by Smooth_Ad 1 day ago

And factually speaking, it isn't true. Up or down does not matter unless you have an air tight seal on your toilet (spoiler: you do not) Pretty sure Myth busters proved as much in an episode

by Afraid-Face 1 day ago

I stand corrected. After some research apparently it's not a big enough difference to really matter. Embrace the fecal fungus.

by Emotional_Day_3092 1 day ago

More fecal matter means better built immune system too

by SuccessBorn5976 1 day ago

An open toilet will smell more than a closed one. There's no reason to leave it open other than laziness

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The lid down reduces the number of escaping particles. Worth it.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Did you read what you replied to? The lid going down causes more to escape in the first place. Take some glitter and put it on a table. Let it sit there; do any move? No. Now take a piece of paper and swat at the glitter..does it go everywhere? Yes. That is what you're doing to fecal particles every time you close the lid.

by NecessaryEmu 1 day ago

The flushing and movement of water propels particles too.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Facts. Our immune systems are built way beyond dealing with "fecal bloom." There was another study showing that cell phones actually had far more germs all over them than just about anything else, incuding toilets. It doesn't mean you have to put your phone in a UV-C light for 20 minutes everyday to sanitize or use purell after every time you touch the screen.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I close the seat so that the plume is deflected away from my face and upper body, and because it looks better. I'm aware that it doesn't prevent it entirely, which is why I don't keep my toothbrush in my bathroom at all.

by Deven56 1 day ago

Also, pee and poo are sterile so there's no germs. It's why you don't have to wash your hands either

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I mean yeah, username checks out.

by EarlyAerie 1 day ago

Neither urine nor feces is sterile that's a myth.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Spoken like someone who's never tried them before

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You mean the toilet lid I agree the lid should be shut to avoid bloom

by Salty_Building 1 day ago

I have a small bathroom so one time I bent over to pull up my pants after a poop and the doorknob went right into my butt. But yeah I agree. Closed unless I'm sitting on it.

by ReasonableSock 1 day ago

Ok, poo in the toilet and close the lid. A surprise for the person to open it

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Correct. Put the lid down before you flush to reduce aerosoled poo particles floating round your house.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I agree. Toilets have lids. Use them.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

If it's shut then people will sit on the pee I didn't clean off the seat.

by ProofFew2554 1 day ago

What does this even mean? Do you pee on the lid? lol

by Kyla57 1 day ago

This is why men tend to not put down the seat. In public bathrooms assholes do in fact pee on the seat. Something you find out when you have to take a dump away from home.

by Ornery_External_3439 1 day ago

Making the rule of leaving the seat up just so public assholes that piss on the lid have a slightly lower chance of being an asshole is not sound logic at all. This is why we're where we are now….

by Kyla57 1 day ago

That explains a lot.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yes, the seat should always be put down before you flush.

by Torrey74 1 day ago

Toilet cover? Or toilet seat?

by dokeefe 1 day ago

Thats how I do it and ill keep it that way

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I never used to do this until I started dating my boyfriend, because it was a habit of his. Now I feel weird anytime I leave the toilet seat open before flushing. I completely agree with you

by Piper70 1 day ago

I started doing it after she started going on about leaving the seat up then I started going on about putting lid down

by Sufficient-Pea 1 day ago

As a man I think pissing with the seat up is disgusting. So I agree.

by AgreeableMall 1 day ago

I agree with this because I have cats. One of them likes to get in there and splash the water around for some reason. Luckily she's too dumb to figure out how to lift the lid.

by Stephany14 1 day ago

Correct. It's to do with toothbrushes and keeping them cleaner.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I've had cats for the past 25 years and dogs for the past 20. If you don't want a cat or dog drinking out of the toilet, you close it all the way.

by breanna53 1 day ago

Yeah I don't get why people don't understand BASIC HYGIENE. And I hate to agree this is an unpopular opinion.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

In our main underground toilet at the mine I work at, the lid is always closed.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Wait until you do a fecal swab test of your doorknobs, remote control, phone, and absolutely everything you touch through the day. I'm all for taking precautions against germs, but closing the toilet seat isn't doing anything compared to what you touch in a normal day. Wash your hands, don't touch your face, etc. But these "germ preventions" are mostly just theater. I'm not going to live in a bubble and have rarely gotten sick in 40 years. Note: I am all for every single vaccine that exists

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The germ issue aside, the toilet seat lid up is just aesthetically unpleasing to me. Why does anyone want to see inside the toilet??? Secondly, I have this fear that something is going to fall into the toilet if the seat is left up. This is especially true if the toilet seat is next to the bathroom vanity. It's just better all around to keep it closed.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Never did it absolutely always before becoming a bird parent...now I triple check

by Jessica54 1 day ago

I mean women complaining about the toilet seat being left up baffles me. Like, they have gravity on their side it's easier for them to knock it down than it is for us to pick it up.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

After you use the toilet there is urine and/or excrement in the toilet. You should close the lid before you flush. It's easy, gravity will help.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Or I just won't, and they can just keep complaining over nothing

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Leaving toilet seat up = living in filthy. Could you be more unhinged

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Poop is filth, buddy. If there's poop on your stuff you live in filth.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Ok mate 🙄

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Or you know wipe while sitting and flush before you get up

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Unless you sprang for a commercial toilet- your home bowl isnt violently throwing much of anything. Double if your in a state that requires low flow. Your work restroom is a different story. And those don't have lids.
