It's the exact same as going to a panel discussion at a conference, museum, or college. But, presumably, entertaining instead of educational. Not my thing --- even though I'm a huge podcast fan, I wouldn't necessarily leave the house for my podcasters. But I get it. (Also understand that live podcasts are usually pretty different from the MP3 you get of their studio show. Watching ESPN First Take in person is much more deranged.)

Never done it, but it sounds fun. I only ever listen to comedy podcasts, so it would be like going to see a comedy show or stand-up rather than listening to it. Just something fun to do in a room full of likeminded people. And maybe they do a meet-and-greet afterwards which can be cool for folks who have been listening for a long time and feel attached to these creators

A…live podcast? Like…somebody expects people to go show up and watch them have their downmarket TED Talk? That's a thing?!

They got more than one kind of podcast you know

its a decent way for popular pod casts to make more money

Agreed. Live podcast worsens every end of the experience. Do I go to this taping of the episode where I have worse sound quality and I have to sit and listen and do nothing else or do I wait til it's online and listen to the struggle of doing live sound and audience noise and all the rough edges

As someone who does not do podcasts...I'm immediately put off by the idea but also intrigued. I imagine you'd have to be quite a diehard fan to consider attending live, but the appeal is clearly there.

I used to listen to particular podcast every single week, I loved it so much. After I went to the live show, I became completely disillusioned and couldn't listen to the podcast anymore. Somehow it ruined it

Which ones? Just curious

95% of what I listen to are comedy podcasts, so a live show is just a comedy show with extra steps, which is typically a decent time. I would have no interest in attending a political, educational, or basically any non-comedy podcast, because right - at that point you it's just a lame TED talk with overpriced drinks.
