I like small talk fine but In not good at initiating it. I think a lot of people who say they hate small talk hate that they're not good at it.

Small talk just feels fake, i can't take having these fake conversations with fake smiles. Genuinely upsets me sometimes.

Most small talk enjoyers are oblivious to when to let go I don't mind it in general. But if you can't take the hint that I'm not receptive to what you say for whatever reasons and keep talking, then you're the absolute bane of my life

We don't hate small talk. We perfectly understand what it's used for. What we hate is when people are unable to move past small talk, and keep small talking for hours.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Yeah, but I don't really want to learn. I do always ask about people's day because I genuinely care. But "how's the weather?" "How about those sports team?" "How's your dog?" These are a bit nonsensical and I'm fine just getting to the deep stuff๐

I used to think I hated small talk but I really just hate small talk at the wrong times. Early in the morning or in a store at the cash register, No. If im at an event on the weekend and a person starts a convo about what's happening in front of us and it evolves, maybe.

However, there are some people who think it's beneath them. Quite narrow thinking that this is the only reason why some people don't like small talk. Not to mention this is one the uncommon reasons

Small talk can be really boring at times, like you're running out of things to say.

Yes, and? Most of the awkwardness comes from being conversationally inept from being introverted, or having a constant hamster wheel or loading bar that won't load up in our brain while speaking.
by Littelliana1 day ago
Not necessarily awkward but if you want to call being introverted self absorbed I guess that is technically correct. I guess it isn't quite small talk I don't like rather small talk with you
