I mostly go to lakes because there's a ton where I live and the sea is far away. There's something special with the ocean though, and there's no dangerous wildlife by the sea where I live.

Wildlife risks are considerably lower and you have less things to watch out for and more room to just let yourself and your friends enjoy the trip Not in all rivers. The closest river closest to me has bull sharks in it and are known to attack humans. Not to mention sometimes it not safe to swim in due to algae blooms and it's advised not to eat anything out of it. Plus the waves are kinda fun to body surf in the ocean.
