For the time they were a great alternative band, they had a unique sound but I don't feel they evolved beyond Wonderwall. All of their songs sound the same-ish, but Morning Glory remains one of my favorite albums. It carries the sound of an entire decade for me. That was my childhood.

I love some of The high flying birds stuff. Oasis were huge for all the kids in the 90's of which I was one. But didn't really get it back then and Liam is insufferable at best 😂 Noel I think is a bit more palatable. Like listening to his stories/interviews. At the time I was into dance music more than indie.

God forbid a city have pride in a successful band that grew up on the same streets they did. I bet Birmingham is proud of Ozzy too, let them have it. Why not? You don't have to listen to them. It does not harm you for others to have joy or pride over something you don't particularly like.

I have no problem with other people liking them, but you have to understand, right now in Manchester you can't avoid Oasis. It's because of the reunion tour, I know it'll pass, but it is kind of tiring to be hearing about them and seeing stuff about them everywhere I look. I think they are overrated but I'd never be mean to someone for liking them. Just not my cup of tea.

What? So OP isn't allowed to be annoyed by it? I grew up where Harleys are from. They are ubiquitous there. Extremely loud and smelly things. I grew up to hate Harleys because of that. Now I live very far from there and am now able to not care about Harleys. But it's not like I could just pretend they didn't exist and noise up and clutter the streets when I had to live amongst them.

Yeah, it's your opinion, but it shows you don't understand about music. It's fine to not like the Beatles, but to call them overrated is objectively wrong. The musical scenery today would be radically different if not for them, most of the things that are now clichés and popular in music they've invented. When they came along nobody was doing anything similar, so it was, technically speaking, quite the feat.

I think by the time you get to Rubber Soul, they definitely started doing things that hadn't been done before, with regards to how to compose an album and taking inspiration from a big pool of genres and musical styles. I'd say that was pretty groundbreaking. Musically, I think it's fair to say that Paul McCartney is extremely gifted as a musician. Probably even more so after The Beatles broke up. But I've never seen the Beatles get praise for being excellent musicians, but they were undoubtedly excellent songwriters. There are more "talented" musicians who make worse music than The Beatles. I'd say they were all extremely talented, while also being lucky to be discovered and markedet the way they were.

Molded into a product by Brain Epstein, marketed by EMI, then got rich, bored and started "experimenting". Get a musician, give him some time and a big budget, then market it with lots of hype and you'll get your money's worth. Unfortunately there is lots of truth in the saying that great jazz is recognized by musicianship, while pop and rock by record sales, unfortunately. Not to mention every time you criticize the Beatles, people will just straight up crawl out the woodwork and go out of their way to make sure you think their songwriting, sound, experimentation, technique was the best, etc. Just 'cause they sold a lotta records.

Liam is overrated without a doubt. Noel is a lyrical genius. I've saw them in concert just before the split up. It was a good gig but I never liked their music when I was younger. Just felt like noise to me.
