Where are the groups calling out "eggplant" or "pineapple". And don't get me started on "strawberries", "raspberries", and "blackberries", which aren't even berries.

Eggplant looks a lot like an egg before it is ripe.

Cut the tip off an eggplant and squeeze out the goop. It has the consistency of egg whites. That's why it's called an eggplant

No lol, it's because they resemble goose eggs when young and not ripe

I believe that might have been a penis joke.

If you want to go down this path, we can talk about how everything descended from bony fish ARE fish, including humans, but many creatures like jellyfish are truly not.

"Peanut cream"?

by Labadiedale 1 day ago

Yep. It's peanut cream in Lithuania... Such a stupid story really. There was a brand called "Sviestas sviestuotas" (Buttery butter) and they were selling peanut butter and other non dairy alternatives, and some morron took them to court because they were "confusing customers". And now we don't have peanut butter anymore, or coconut milk or apple cheese...

What did the polar bear say when he tasted the margarine? "I can't believe it's not blubber!"

by ccole 1 day ago

I complain. Used to be called peanut paste where I grew up. That has been usurped by peanut butter and I'm not happy about it.

Crushed peanut oil doesn't have the same ring to it.

The traditional use of the word "Butter" was not exclusively for milk butter, rather it refers to a spread made with crushed fruit or nuts which are cooked down to form a thickened spread. Like there is jam, jelly, butters, compote, relish, etc. so you have apple butter, peanut butter, peach butter. Butter refers to the process and end result of the spread.
