So the entire mall has tight, narrow walking spaces? I doubt that. To be honest, it sounds like you're being bitter and overreacting. Usually, a couple holding hands is taking up the same amount of space as they would be if they were walking closely side-by-side. The only difference is they joined hands. How do you feel about an adult holding a child's hand? Or someone assisting an elderly person? Maybe try to relax a bit, because holding hands in a public space like a busy mall isn't the end of the world. Acts of affection are a natural part of life.

Not to get ahead, simply to maintain my walking gait in the direction I'm needing or wanting to go. When a party of one looks to make way more urgently or efficiently than a party of 2, then I feel there's an issue.
