+63 Clumsiness during a time crunch is a horrendous cliche. amirite?

And yet it is absolutely a realistic cliche! When people get stressed and panic they ARE clumsier.

The reason it's a "cliche" is because it's accurate. When I'm stressed and rushing my anxiety kicks up and my hands start shaking and I start dropping things & rushing in a way I normally don't

Oh so when you suddenly have to defuse a bomb or are being chased by a eldritch horror deity, you don't make mistakes?

This is one of the most well known effects of adrenaline - it causes shaking in the limbs because your system is keyed up to maximum.

It doesn't even have to be full blown panic, either. I regularly make stupid mistakes when there's a large line because I'm trying to rush everyone through with minimal wait (we only have one register).

Sure it's exaggerated on TV, but let me give you like 10 minutes to pack for a big trip or to get out the door for a big day at work and tell me you wont be running around looking for stuff, dropping stuff on the ground cause you are scrambling and forgetting stuff.

I was cooking earlier this week and had some tight timings, so of course everything I did while rushing went wrong. Things I've done many times just didn't go right, I smashed an egg, flung stuff around trying to mix stuff in a bowl, spilled stuff on the floor. Luckily I didn't have to cut anything or I'm sure I'd have cut my finger off with how clumsy I became. This stuff happens, we become very uncoordinated under pressure.

I agree, but only when the clumsiness is summoned out of thin air to serve the plot. If the people are naturally clumsy, or are injured, it makes more sense for them to be clumsy than to suddenly lose their clumsiness.

I don't think it's a cliche it's super realistic You are much likely to be clumsy when in a time crunch

You ever find yourself in a situation where you're short on time and have to rush? Smooth is fast, and slow is smooth. Whatever it is you're doing, chances are you'll be doing much worse at it if you're really trying to go as fast as possible,
