Could do with explaining your point a bit more. What is your ideal joker? Also the joker can't really do what he does without being mentally ill that's why he's sent to Arkham Asylum a place specifically for the criminally insane.

In a sense, but Joker has his moments where he comes out of it. In The Killing Joke, Batman says he wants to help Joker and that he could be rehabilitated, with Joker saying it's basically too late at that point.

I think this applies way more to 2019 than Dark Knight. Heath Ledger Joker has it all for me. He's funny, he's scary, we don't know his real name and he gives multiple different backstories. He's obsessed with Batman and is in it for the game not money. And of course he's very intelligent and a great schemer. I guess it depends on what you think the Joker is besides "mental illness" but I think there's clearly more to Ledger's Joker than that

Agreed, the Joaquin Phoenix one is the version I'd expect him to reference. I like the whole idea of a back story but you are telling me this otherwise normal guy going through a mental breakdown turns into an all out supervillain / criminal mastermind?

Well ultimately thats not what happens in the Joker movies lol. I havent seen Joker 2 but in the end he basically says he's not actually the Joker All he really does in the original is kill a few people including a talk show host, everything else happens on its own
