+45 There is little sense in buying more expensive flights for short haul journeys. amirite?

Agree! Not like it matters as I couldn't afford the upgrade lol. I'm economy class.

Honestly, I got through about a paragraph before I'd had enough of you describing your unearned wealth

OP you mean? Yeah doesn't exactly sell the thesis haha

The point of business class is business: you are more comfortable so you arrive more rested at your international business meeting. The point of first class is for people that consider a 9000€ expense the same as buying a pack of tissues.

I am an international business man flying to attend an international business meeting.

My colleague accidentally left the bags there now please let us go before we miss our international business meeting

Yep - the average person, even if they're financially comfortable, isn't the target of business business class. It's the working traveler throwing it on the company card.

If i had the money I would 100% upgrade to business. I'm 6"3 and can't sleep in economy. The price of economy to you and I is the same as business to someone richer

by Anonymous 8 hours ago

I suppose that's the difference. I'm 180 and have sufficient legroom. I am also perfectly happy so sleep mostly anywhere. It's really not a money thing for me.

Honestly in my opinion it simply depends on the price difference. Generally speaking I agree but sometimes on short flights especially depending on how many bags you have, the upgrade may be pretty similar in price. Sometimes on long haul the difference between business and an exit row is 3-4x the price. It's always dependent on price difference for me, but generally I agree anything below 5 hours is usually not worth considering an upgrade. But recently I took a 3 hour flight with 2 suitcases and I just paid an extra $100 to fly "first" not lay flat or anything since smaller short flight plane but economy with 2 suitcases was $100 less so I just went with first which had the 2 bags included

The lounge access that comes with Business class makes it worth it, especially if the flight is delayed.

We fly economy for anything under 8 hours but over that threshold, business class is definitely worth it. Especially if flying with our toddler. We take a 15 hour flight to our home country 1-2 times a year - it would be hell to do that with a toddler in economy.

Whilst I'm on a much lower budget, I totally agree. I travel to continental Europe maybe 2 or 3 times a year for weekend trips and usually twice over to Belfast which is a short 1 hour hop. I just find the cheapest flight there I can and I'm usually only travelling with a backpack so no point using legacy carriers with included baggage. My unpopular opinion is that I'd be totally fine with standing seats on those kind of 1 - 2 hour flights - I've stood up for longer on trains and paid more for the privilege. I'm planning my first long haul trip in a few years to Canada for the WC next year and am hoping to treat myself to business class for that though, should I find a decent deal when I properly take a look in a few weeks.

how is this an unpopular opinion tho.

It's a abominably offensive waste of money when it far exceeds the annual salary of a large fraction of the people on the planet.
