i get the sentiment but disagree, my 10/10 albums consist mostly of songs i consider 10/10 or 9/10

Don't view albums as a collection of songs, view them as a single entity. I'm a journalist for a heavy metal magazine so I have to remind myself of this sometimes. Of course going through each song and having opinions on them individually is good, but there is an element you will miss if you judge every song separately. Albums are laid out very deliberately. It's like saying a 10/10 song is really a bunch of 7/10 bars with a few 10/10 bars thrown in. Don't break down the song by bars, listen to the whole thing. Same with an album.
