+57 Buttons Inside Cars, amirite?

by Ikemmer 1 day ago

You can use real buttons without taking your eyes off the road. Also VW has started to bring real buttons back according to customer feedback.

If Vw is the only brand that does this, my next car will be a vw.

You can use real buttons without taking your eyes off the road. you keep saying that, as if it can be done doing that 100% of the time. you cant, and its not possible.

If you memorize the interior of your car (which is not so hard to do) it is possible

tell me, how often do you have to look at the keyboard to type accurately? if its more than zero, your entire argument becomes invalid.

I shouldn't need to get used to it. It requires fumbling and taking extra time with my eyes off of the road to navigate the manus, all of which I cant do by feel alone as its a screen. Its dangerous, plain and simple

Not on a highway I dont

Euro NCAP (car safety testing organisation) just started requiring most often used features to have physical buttons. Because touchscreens were proven to be more distracting to operate hence more dangerous. It's not that big of a deal when the screen is big, responsive, reliable and UI is well designed. But practically every single manufacturer has proven to be completely unable to achieve this. Yeah, sounds silly, I know, but it's true.

It's weird how bad they are. I've hired dozens of decent cars from all brands and hardly any of the screens feel anywhere near as responsive as a crappy tablet. You can sense the lag when you touch it. It's a mystery why they can't get this simple thing right, apart from them literally having no digital expertise and choosing the cheapest supplier.

USS John S. McCain sure loves the touchscreen steering and throttle controls. (It was the navy destroyer that collided near Singapore)

I hate screens but for reasons other people haven't mentioned. Pay walls. They can literally hide anything they want behind having you pay. I'll take my physical button that shows a feature I can and should be able to use any time I want.

I hate the screens because they quickly become a greasy disgusting mess. I'm sure physical buttons get just as nasty but they hide it better. There's no hiding a screen covered in greasy fingerprints.

they definitely dont hide it better.

Mine has simple controls for aircon and sounds but most is 1-2 button clicks away. Not that bad tbh, voice assist helps when she's listening

It already sucks for me, but I can still work with it. I'm young. But imagine in a couple decades, when your eyes need 1 second to adjust to what you see, your reflexes suck and your movement is not what it used to be.

Lol why would you ever go to bat for this?
