This isn't tic-toc, you can say the word 'rapist'.

Lawyers are people. Some people are evil or bad. Some lawyers are evil or bad.

And that goes for defenders and prosecutors alike.

There may not be evil lawyers but some lawyers are definitely more competent than others and that can make a difference.

Your specific scenario is correct. Even those accused of horrific crimes deserve their chance in court and legal representation. (Innocent until proven guilty after all). There are, however, many slimy and evil lawyers, especially once you get into business law, family law, etc.

Some lawyers do not care about the actual case, they only care about and get paid for protecting the civil rights of their client. It's not their responsibility to make good po-lice, only to magnify their poor efficacy at their work.

The same applies to the prosecutors. People don't seem to understand the fundamental truth of our justice system, which is that the goal of a trial isn't to discover the facts, it's to put you in prison.

I unironically believe this, and a few different major social ills, are the result of the true crime genre rotting our brains.

Yes they are

Oh sweet summer child. Don't speak from ignorance, it makes you look foolish.

Attorneys are an indispensable part of a free society. Even the most heinous criminal deserve vigorous representation. That said, I can definitely see the moral issues with being the one who personally volunteers to do that. The line is that the attorney isn't necessarily trying to get them off, but make sure they get a fair trial. Maybe. But if that attorney doesn't pursue all ethical options available, up to and including dismissal, acquittal, etc., they're not doing their job.

I mean yes there are evil and bad Lawyers some lie some do absolutely scummy things. that being said just because someone defends criminals and even corporations doesn't mean they are evil. Being a defense attorney means that they keep the government honest and make them follow the rules more than anything

defence lawyers absolutely help people get away with crimes, whether they're innocent or guilty at heart. it's literally their job to do. you claiming that the only way that someone can get away with a crime is if they're innocent, prosecution makes a massive fumble or corruption is involved is completely naive and frankly, unintelligent. a defence lawyer's job is not to decide guilt - as i've stated before, it's simply to defend their client. whether they did something wrong or not isn't their problem. a good lawyer can use various techniques such as finding minor errors or mistakes in prosecution, highlighting reasonable doubt, suppressing confessions, emotional arguments, stalling and confusing jurors to win a case where the client may have indeed been in the wrong. skilled lawyers absolutely are able to help guilty people get away with crimes. why would lawyers even exist in the first place if they don't help sentence reduction or evasion like you claimed is true? why would knowingly guilty people have lawyers if the only way they could walk free was in the two specific scenarios you mentioned? also, as a lawyer you also can absolutely reduce the punishment below what one is meant to receive through the negotiation of plea bargains, presentation mitigating factors, merging charges etc.

not to mention that due to their extensive knowledge of legal systems, many of them can help their clients exploit loopholes which allow them to evade legal enforcement for things that should be (but sadly aren't) technically illegal.

There are lawyers who only care about being paid and don't care what kind of harm comes from that. Ones who will get the worst people set free for a paycheck. Sounds pretty evil to me, in a Team Rocket kind of way.
