The irony to this argument is even if you payed people the same, it would still be unequal. The actual number is meaningless. What matters is buying power.

So move to Sri Lanka and live like a king. Who is forcing you to stay in NYC?

The capitalist dream of globalisation was never meant for the workers sadly.

Equal pay for equal work isn't a real thing. It's a slogan that's shorthand for not discriminating based on race or gender, which is itself a good thing to have. Once you start adding other factors, like location, you realize that it doesn't make sense to pay people exactly the same regardless of anything. Even companies with multiple locations in the same country will probably pay people differently because the market for that job is different. You pay as much as you need to hire that person. When you go on vacation, do you pay the same price for the same coffee, or burger, or chocolate bar? No, you pay the price that it is where you are. That's the fair price for that thing in that place.

TIL supply & demand is discriminatory

You're missing the simplest fact. Job market is a market. Salary isn't a function of morals, discrimination, prejudice, etc. It's function of supply, demand and value.

I might be bias but I agree. My girlfriend in the Philippines works for a German company as network engineer supoort. They pay in euros and though its an ok salary in PH, its far below minimum in Germany. Her yearly salary is equivalent to 2.5 months of average salary in Germany.

If they had to pay her the same amount a German makes, they would just hire a German.
