Running marathons are usually about stroking your own ego more than any other benefit, amirite?

Celebrating what your body can do is a bad thing now?
by Anonymous1 day ago
I do t think they are saying it is a bad thing, just that people who are proud of the poops they take don't usually feel inclined to make it a focus of their personality

Nothing wrong with that. Wanting to achieve things that are tough to achieve is a great goal. And there is nothing wrong with showing off your achievements.

It's like climbing mountains. A lot of people do it to test their physical limits. Also, it's lowkey a huge flex

It's also a fun activity and the training up to the marathon is great for you. Theres also a sense of community and after the races you celebrate with friends.

It is about telling yourself "look what I can do."

As someone who ran an unofficial half marathon, I did do it just to flex.

So?
by Anonymous1 day ago
Nothing wrong with challenging yourself and there would/should be long term health benefits, moreso from the training programme than the actual race.

I mean yeah. If i could run 26 miles straight i wouldn't shut up abt it either
by Anonymous1 day ago
My friends who run see it as affirmation of a job well done. They train their bodies and reap the success.
by Anonymous1 day ago
So? I've never run one, but it's an impressive feat of endurance.
by Sipeshermina1 day ago
I think for a lot of people it's a test of endurance and will

Just wait until this guy hears about ultramarathons.
by rosalynparisian1 day ago
Okay? Let people be proud of it
by Durwardabbott1 day ago
Ok?
by Anonymous1 day ago
There's no long term health benefit. Do you think the only thing that goes into a marathon is the 3-4 hours on the day of the race?
by Anonymous1 day ago
lol endurance athletes are the healthiest people on the planet.

Have you run a marathon? Or a half-marathon?
by osauer1 day ago
You could apply this to all exercise beyond, say, the AHA guidelines. Marathoners get off a little easier because it's not perceived to be as much of a vanity play as something like bodybuilding, but it's still an ego play. That said, I'm not really sure that's a bad thing. Having some outlets for ego stroking is probably good for your mental health.

Correct, hence the annoying 26.2 bumper stickers.
by Total_Court65851 day ago
Its insane to be annoyed by that lmao
