+51 I think a city's sports teams should all match, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Then you wouldn't have to buy a bunch of different merch That's exactly the opposite of the goal for the people who make these decisions lol

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yeah, all the teams are different businesses with different owners. The baseball team doesn't get a dime when you buy a jersey from the local basketball team.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Unless they're owned by the same company like the Leafs and Raptors.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Oh yeah that can definitely happen, just that it's not the case most of the time.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Well even if they werent, Toronto fans arent about to throw a Raptors jersey on the ice.

by Equivalent_Key4798 1 day ago

Ik, that's why it'll never happen, but fun to think about

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Pittsburgh does this

by Anonymous 1 day ago

There was a point in the 90s when Wisconsin sports teams all had green as one of their main colors. Then the brewers changed to navy and yellow.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Steelers and Pirates and Penguins.

by Immediate-Umpire8539 1 day ago

Oh yeah! Good call

Just here doing my civic duty to remind everyone that Ben Roethlisberger is a rapist.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Such a lucky guy. He missed the #metoo movement by a decade and got away with it and he missed the death of the pocket quarterback by a decade and got away with it.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Always liked that

But them terrible towels would be white if they washed them once and a while

by naderamari 1 day ago

So does Ottawa. Red and black. Sens Red blacks Black bears

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Houston used to have a similar "Space/NASA" theme with the Rockets, Astros and Comets (WNBA). Then the Texans showed up.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

And to be fair, it is super cute.

What OP wants is a college town

Move to Pittsburgh

by Izaiahauer 1 day ago

I'm a proud Cavs and Guardians fan but you won't catch me being associated with the Browns.

by Tiny_Entrance3522 1 day ago

It's a lot easier to be a fan of those teams compared to the Browns.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The true mistake on the lake

by Tiny_Entrance3522 1 day ago

That's the joke people make, yeah. What NFL team are you a fan of?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I don't really care for the NFL. I watch Ohio State.

by Tiny_Entrance3522 1 day ago

Go Bucks. So nice winning a championship without having to cheat like that team up north.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Valid take

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Seattle almost does it. After the Sonics left and before the Kraken started, the Seahawks, Mariners, and Sounders FC all had some kind of shade of blue and green.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I know they call it "Northwest Green," but Mariners teal and Seahawks neon green don't live in the same ZIP code.

by Klutzy_Land 1 day ago

Well that's one of the worst ideas I've heard in a long time when it comes to sports teams, especially for women's sports. Hell that might just outright kill off women's sports (probably not, but it would most certainly hurt them I should think).

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Actually, some WNBA teams match NBA teams color schemes. Sparks and Lakers, Mystics and Wizards, Lynx and Timberwolves, Mercury and Suns. They have different team names obviously, but I think it's cool the teams coordinate

by grimesethelyn 1 day ago

The color coordination isn't what I'm talking about (it's the only thing I'm fine with), but rather from what OP is describing basically just removing what makes these teams stand out from their own counterparts. And yes, I think the teams coordinating colors like that is pretty cool.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

It's actually common in a lot of other countries though. Like in Europe, because soccer is so dominant, some basketball, handball, women's soccer etc teams are started as offshoots by the big soccer teams and operate under the same organization with the same name and logo. So like we all know the Bayern Munich soccer team, but they're technically just one of the several "Bayern Munich" sports teams owned by that organization, similar to college sports in the US

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Huh, didn't know that.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

A lot of them have different owners, they all want a share of your disposable income. Plus, let's say you support the Chicago Blackhawks, but don't care at all about basket ball and support the Buffalo Bills because your dad was a fan (this isn't me, just saying). Then what about the Cubbies and WhiteSox.m?

by Fschmidt 1 day ago

What I'm hearing is that all places should be more like Green Bay, WI

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Mets, Jets, Nets.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

NY Liberty and Gotham FC use statue of liberty teal/green and black

by eldrednolan 1 day ago

So what do you do about say, London. Which has 7 premier league teams in it and many more not in it.

by No-Offer 1 day ago

What about ones where there is a rivalry between each cities teams? Imagine Celtic and Rangers under one brand, wouldn't work'

by hintzeloise 1 day ago

lol you're welcome

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Teams haven't always been from where they currently are is probably why none of them match

by Dovie43 1 day ago

"Hey, two tickets for Kings please". ".... which ones?"

by Jwuckert 1 day ago

"Sorry sir you bought tickets for the hockey game not basketball game."

by Glad_Scholar4046 1 day ago

Seattle teams have a lot of blue and green going on.

by Ok_Holiday_7607 1 day ago

So the Cubs and the White Sox should all dress alike? Not in this lifetime, pal.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

One company would have to sponsor all those teams. They could not afford to, plus it eliminates the possibility of true competition between companies for sponsorship.

by Jermain17 1 day ago

What does NYC do? Giants and Jets in the same colors? Mets and Yankees? Nets and Knicks? Rangers and Islanders? Madness

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Pittsburgh is so lame for this approach it looks hillbilly af

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I mean, I don't hate it. Less for the not having to buy different merch, but more for just the overall vibe.

by Taraquigley 1 day ago

Pittsburgh kinda does. Just wear black and yellow and it's all good.

by Sebastian74 1 day ago

I think for me as a college sports fan I enjoyed being able to mix and match all of the merch I wore and being able to bring it to multiple different sporting events. I go to a lot of different games in my city and I enjoy having jerseys, hats, etc. and it gets expensive. I like the idea of being able to easily rep my city regardless of the sport. But I also get allll the logistical issues why this isn't a good idea. That's why it's an unpopular opinion :)

by Anonymous 1 day ago

That's just college sports. Also, many people like teams from different cities.

by Frankiemarquard 1 day ago

But many cities a multiple teams and hate each other…. Also cities often share teams in some leagues while rivals in others so it wouldn't work

by Wide_Adhesiveness 1 day ago

This might make sense if sports teams were owned by the city and represented the city. The reality is that they just happen to be in a given city. They are private organizations that represent their ownership, not the location they play in.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

How would it work in markets with multiple teams? Every soccer club in London now has to be the same or the vast majority of AFL teams all being based in Melbourne

by Old-Adeptness 1 day ago

At least use the same colors
