+59 You should be able to buy individual shoes instead of being forced to buy them in pairs, amirite?

by Substantial-Mouse 1 day ago

How often are you losing shoes, especially just one shoe? I feel that this a solution to a largely non-existent problem

by Legitimate_Pain 1 day ago

I once had a dog eat a Fluevog loafer, except for the rubber sole, which he was gnawing on when I got home. The purple leather upper came out over the next day or so in tiny shreds.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I understand this happens when you are the last one to leave the party after you just woke up. The other scenario is that you have a pair but they are now too small.

by CreativeYak 1 day ago

You can buy most shoes as singles, but they're twice the price and include a spare for your other foot.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Bahaha

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Is this an actual problem for you?

by Prestigious-Bus 1 day ago

My left foot is half a size bigger than my right. Being able to buy individual shoes would be game changing for me.

by Mean-Anteater 1 day ago

True but how often are you 'losing a shoe'? Even when I was a blackout alcoholic I still managed to keep all of my clothing items!

by Ritchieamalia 1 day ago

Tbh, I assumed OP meant losing a shoe to random circumstances like a dog chewing one, a heel breaking on one, getting a stain that won't come out, setting a shoe on fire because a spider crawled in, etc. Basically any kind of loss that would render one shoe unusable for any reason.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I know of a shoe company in Seattle that prices their shoes individually. It honestly felt like a scam move, like these shoes are 56.99... per shoe. But I guess it's a niche market.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I was wondering the same. I've lost shoes, but they turn up somewhere around the house after a few days.

by KaleidoscopeOne9748 1 day ago

Yeah it happens every now and then

by Substantial-Mouse 1 day ago

How do you keep losing a single shoe?

by Fweissnat 1 day ago

He's probably a kickball veteran.

by Same-Way5154 1 day ago

You don't want two shoes worn down to different levels. It will be uncomfortable.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I have a deformity in my ankles that causes uneven wear in my shoes. Can confirm that if my shoe wears down enough I get hip and back pain from the uneven levels. Can't confirm the knee/ankle issues because I have pain there anyway.

by Grimesaidan 1 day ago

Up voting because this is a genuinely unpopular opinion. Bonus points for not being hatefilled just ...a really weird idea.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Who loses one shoe?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

And who does it often?

by Ok-Lie 1 day ago

This guy apparently

by Sad-Return7193 1 day ago

I did once, in a mosh pit. I don't expect that to be repeated

by Anonymous 1 day ago

A lot of nurses after leaving them in communal changing rooms actually

by alexander56 1 day ago

Insert the Austin Powers show through god

by robertsdewayne 1 day ago

That's actually a good point, I didn't even think about that

by Substantial-Mouse 1 day ago

They would also look terrible as the wear on them would be very very different.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

How do you know so many people with amputations wtf

by Substantial-Mouse 1 day ago

I'm heavily involved with the American Legion

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Oh ok my bad, sorry for the disrespect sir 🫔

by Substantial-Mouse 1 day ago

How do you lose so many singular shoe?

by Ok-Lie 1 day ago

They have to be all the single shoes I see in the middle of the road! I get the idea that people are just driving down the road, minding their own business and suddenly, a shoe comes undone and flies off their foot and out the vehicle window! It must happen a LOT!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

HOW DO YOU LOSE SO MANY SHOES?!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Never in my 28 years on this planet have I ever lost a shoe

by sreichel 1 day ago

Idk if I've ever lost just 1 shoe.

by oralbogan 1 day ago

How often are you losing a shoe and how? In what situation are you losing so many singular shoes?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

There's also the issue of different sized feet.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I don't think ive ever lost a single shoe but yea i suppose it would be a good idea to have it as an option😭 same goes for if someone had a leg amputated or something. Pairs would still be more popular by a milestone tho

by Egutkowski 1 day ago

Just guessing, but most amputees had some kind of prosthetic that they can wear shoes on, isn't?

by Ok-Lie 1 day ago

I've actually no idea, i dont know any amputees. U could be right tho

by Egutkowski 1 day ago

Have a relative who lost a leg in a motorcycle accident (above knee amputation). Has a prosthetic but rarely uses it since it is such a challenge to walk. So 99.9% of the time they are moving about in a motorized chair. After initially scoffing, I think this one shoe idea might actually have some merit.

by Exciting-Hotel4076 1 day ago

I didn't even think about the amputees, I feel like this further supports my idea of why this is a necessity

by Substantial-Mouse 1 day ago

I'm 52 and have NEVER had this problem!!🤣 But I will say that I know people that have 2 different size shoes enough that it really uncomfortable. Maybe they should!!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I've never lost a shoe before in my life…what are you doing that you keep losing shoes? If you've lost more than maybe 2 shoes in your life then you gotta make some changes. Idk what exactly but you're doing something wrong if you're stuggling to keep track of your shoes

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I really don't know, it's kinda like when you misplace a side of sock. You try to keep them in pairs but one side always seems to disappear for no reason. For me, it just so happens that this occurs with my shoes too

by Substantial-Mouse 1 day ago

To be fair, there are reasons you might lose a lot of shoes. For example, as a young child (I'm dating myself here), we rode the back seat of our station wagon. It was a Brady Bunch style wagon and the back seat faced that big back window. We lived down a very, very, very, long dirt driveway. When Dad turned onto the driveway, us kids would roll down the window and kick one shoe off and out. Then, when we got to the house and he parked, we'd hop back down the driveway to get it. Sometimes, our aim was off and the shoe flew into the road and, well, cars... So, we would lose single shoes that way.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I can't say I've ever lost 1 shoe, but I'd agree mostly in the sense if people have one foot at a different size than the other. I know for me, I am picky about my shoes because I often get blisters on the back of my right heel. I think that foot is slightly smaller and could use to be like a half size down. But that would also just add to the stress of now needing to find 2 different shoes in your size rather than a pre boxed pair.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Vans used to do this back in the Anaheim days.

by Substantial_Pace 1 day ago

Yes! We could buy two different colored Vans to express our own fashion quirks & individuality.

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

No one really losew their shoes enough for this to happen but I agree it would be nice to mix and match shoes at half the price you would be able to do it today.

by Federal_Sound 23 hours ago

No one older than 5 should ever lose just one shoe.

by rohanima 23 hours ago

Yeah, my dad was pissed

by Nelliewaelchi 22 hours ago

MY SHOE!

by Similar_Potential_65 22 hours ago

What are you doing you're consistently losing shoes. This is a solution in search of a problem.

by Brilliant_Search_829 22 hours ago

How often are you losing shoes?? I've only lost a shoe once in my 28 years (left it in a hotel room)

by Anonymous 22 hours ago

Well see, you just answered the question yourself, it just sorta happens every now and then

by Substantial-Mouse 21 hours ago

How often do you lose just one shoe from a pair, that's amazing

by Schultztia 21 hours ago

It's pretty unusual to lose one of the shoes. I think your opinion is unpopular for a really good reason

by Jonathan49 21 hours ago

Are you the one randomly leaving shoes on the side of the highway?

by Sad-Return7193 21 hours ago

You can most certainly do this from a cobbler. But customization of orders is not part of mass manufacturing of shoes. If you want anything at all custom in your order, see a cobbler.

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

Dude where am I supposed to find a cobbler in this day and age

by Substantial-Mouse 20 hours ago

Are you losing shoes often?

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

Eh it happens every now and then, maybe like once a year or so

by Substantial-Mouse 20 hours ago

the only people i can see needing this would be amputee's.

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

Shoes salesperson told my mom the display shoes are for the one legged people, they kept the normal pairs in the back… maybe you should shop there lol

by Anonymous 19 hours ago

See I was almost on board cause amputees might not need two shoes, or at least in a family members case, they have feet that are different sized enough so that certain shoes actually only fit right if they're different sizes. But…. Losing a single shoe is not an issue I've heart about a lot.

by aileengoldner 19 hours ago

heart

by Substantial-Mouse 18 hours ago

Lol. Yeah, I don't heart it at all. My bad

by aileengoldner 18 hours ago

In my opinion it could be good, but not for losing something, damage or custom ones. No than everyone must by it that way, else shoes are gonna go from quite varied, to a lot less to chose from. And don't know how they should do that with different feet between us. Black or white is this.

by Otherwise-Plant 18 hours ago

I don't think in 50 years I've ever lost a shoe. Sure, when I was a teenager I'd end up with one shoe under the bed (I was a tornado of a teenager lol) but it wasn't lost. I've lost pairs - like when my duffle got left behind on a bus once - but never a singular shoe.

by Binstelly 17 hours ago

Yeah I guess they could feel free to take advantage of this idea too, why not

by Substantial-Mouse 17 hours ago

I wasn't even thinking about the disableds but yeah this could work great for them too, I genuinely think this idea is genius

by Substantial-Mouse 17 hours ago

Have you ever seen a single shoe on the side of the road? Evidently the OP has experienced that before.

by Weird_Fox 17 hours ago

MULTIPLE TIMES.

by Anonymous 16 hours ago

Where I shop left full price and get the right one free. I only buy lefts so I kind of get screwed

by Anonymous 16 hours ago

This is a bad idea for the same reason it's a bad idea to only replace one car tire at a time.

by kohlerjamil 16 hours ago

Convenient for some?......

by Anonymous 16 hours ago

You could buy single shoes. It would just cost the same as a pair. Which makes sense, because cost of resources is only a very small part compared to the manufacturing, logistics and sales costs. Having some people buy single shoes take so much more effort in the entire process, that it's probably cheaper to buy a pair anyway.

by No-Money7878 16 hours ago

I agree, my feet are different sizes and wish I could do this. Understandably probably a nightmare from a logistics standpoint for brick and mortar stores

by Arleneoconnell 16 hours ago

We've found the person those single shoes by the side of the road belong to! Most of us don't have an issue of EVER losing a single shoe....

by Anonymous 15 hours ago

I have never lost a shoe. But if people do have different sized feet, I guess that would make sense.

by Anonymous 15 hours ago

Are you a pirate?

by Best_Compote_8569 15 hours ago

I'm all for this but the reason isn't for people who lose a single show (seriously OP, you good?) it's for amputees or people with feet that are in fact different sizes for some reason

by Otherwise-Luck 15 hours ago

How does one lose one of their shoes?

by Anonymous 15 hours ago

I have literally never lost a single shoe before. Do you often walk through quicksand, OP?

by These_Candle_3282 15 hours ago

You can do that with windshield wipers... Never works out.

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

Ok fine, but they're the same price.

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

Companoes...

by Anonymous 14 hours ago

The only people who really need to buy one shoe at a time are individuals with medical conditions; and many of those have actually made friends with people who have the opposite problem to trade shoes. I know this because my aunt had polio and had one foot that was larger than the other. She found a woman who had the same size difference in feet but for opposite feet and they would do a shoe exchange regularly.

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

Not a common problem at all. It wouldn't be cost effective for shoe makers to produce singles, not would it be cost effective to buy a single shoe. Also, you don't want a pair of shoes where one shoe is significantly more worn than the other. That can cause all kinds of back, hip, and knee problems.

by CombinationPrior 13 hours ago

Diddle Diddle Dumpling

by Anonymous 13 hours ago

I've never needed to buy a single shoe

by Haagemie 12 hours ago

I've never lost a shoe. It's never happened Maybe it's time to be more responsible

by FishingSpecific3181 12 hours ago

"Nothing is wrong with buying shoes in pairs. It's convenient for some…" With some you mean like more than 99% of the population that have 2 feet? "Isn't it a bit inconvenient when you lose one of the shoes in your pair…" Honestly I think it is easier to win the lottery than to lose just ONE shoe of a pair. Definitely an unpopular opinion lmao. Now: I don't know of anyone against the option of buying just one, but why most people are against it becoming the norm? Because we know capitalism, we know brands, and we know a pair that, let's say, costs $100 would sell separately at $70 each, and now to get a pair you have to spend $140.

by Anonymous 12 hours ago

I am constantly losing one shoe, this is my opinion as well. There's lots of reasons to lose a shoe especially flip flops and other sandals. I've lost a shoe in a crowded music venue when someone stepped on my foot and it slipped off and was too hard to find in the crowd, I've lost a shoe multiple times in water, I'm sure there's hundreds of other scenarios in which one can lose a shoe not to mention pets chewing one shoe which is probably the biggest reason. I mean use your imagination people it's a crazy world we live in.

by Rowetamia 11 hours ago

If you have a pair of shoes that is well worn and you lose one of them, and you replace just that one, it's going to look like you're wearing two different styles of shoes. Being able to replace just one also implies that the styles stay the same year after year, which is not the case. Some brands have some long-running styles, but those are relatively rare.

by Anonymous 11 hours ago

You could just buy a pair and sell the shoe you don't want/need on the open market. I hear lots of people are looking to buy just one shoe.
