Wearing a suit no longer makes you look "professional"; it makes you look like a scammy salesman. amirite?

Things change. Styles, fashion. Wearing armor no longer makes you look like a knight. It makes you look like a medieval LARP going to a renaissance Faire.

There's levels to a suit. A cheap one doesn't make anyone look professional.

Guy hasn't seen a good suit lol

It entirely depends on the suit, if it's a cheap plastic walmart or target one, ill fitting, so old fashioned it looked outdated in the '80s, then you'll look like a smarmy salesperson. it doesn't have to be high end or boutique to look good, as long as it's tailored to the wearer, and contemporary colours or patterns it can look good.

You're mostly correct. The white collar world has adopted a much more "business casual" style day to day. Suits are reserved for rare occasions.

That's why I asked my husband to wear shorts to our wedding 😌

i think suits are outdated. i've honestly never been impressed by them. they look boring to me

OP seems to have men in suits approaching him with some frequency. I live in DC, suits are everywhere, and it's very rare to be approached by a stranger wearing one. Maybe OP hangs out at Menswear's stores

I like suits because a well fitting one can be useful for many occasions: weddings, job interviews, court dates, funerals, etc. All you need is one suit for all occasions, change the tie and shirt as needed.

It's the sad side effect of an entire slew of scammers & asswipes wearing the otherwise respectable suit.

Tired of getting called out for the Champion sweats as being dressed like a bum? 😂

Nah, Having a suit doesn't default to a scammy salesman.

Either going to a job interview or a funeral.

I think it's just that suits work in a specific environment, that's more "formal" events

not only unpopular but dumb.

Not wearing a suit makes you look like a casual scammy salesman that tries to be relatable.

White collar professionals have mostly ditched formal business attire for more casual dress. Working in finance I've seen the shift over the last decade. 10 years ago most bankers, CPAs, lawyers, etc. were wearing a suit. Now they wear button down shirts with slacks and occasionally golf shirts. The exception being lawyers when present in a courtroom. However, the big prominent corporate law firms are rarely in a courtroom anyway. OP is mostly spot on.

I get you but my point is that what you do matters more than what you wear. OP said specifically about people approaching them, so I'm saying if salespeople or preachers approach you and they got no suit then they are just trying to be more relatable to increase their chances. Still scammy sales people tho.
