Professionals, including teachers, shouldn't have noticeable tattoos out, amirite?
by sengerkeagan1 day ago
Teacher here. Pay me like a professional and maybe I'll consider adhering to a 1950's perception of a professional.

There's nothing unprofessional about a tattoo.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Of course there is. Any expression of individually is contrary to conformity, and therefore contrary to professionalism. You are a suit, you are not a person; that is the ultimate form of professionalism. That said, I live in Appalachia, so we're just lucky to get the teachers to wear something other than PJs and Yoga Pants to work.

According to what profession?
by sengerkeagan1 day ago
I'm speaking broadly.
by Anonymous1 day ago
then my answer is that it's unprofessional in areas where business attire traditionally bars tattoos. The only reason it's become accepted is because everyone has them, they still look unprofessional in those settings imo.
by sengerkeagan1 day ago
And I disagree. Tattoos are not inherently unprofessional.
by Anonymous1 day ago
To you. You forgot that very important clause at the end. They look unprofessional... to you. The rest of the world has evolved and doesn't care.
by Kind_Break51401 day ago
That's a lot of words to say "I'm judgemental about inconsequential personal artistic choices." Want to give us a list of hairstyles and fashions you'll judge, too?
by Taya091 day ago
I think it has the consequence of making you look unprofessional in a professional setting
by sengerkeagan1 day ago
No, thats your opinion. Most adults in current year with and without tattoos are mature enough to acknowledge the person, not the art on their skin. I would never want to work with someone so judgmental, it's unprofessional.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Who are you to tell what I can or can't have on my forehead?
by Anonymous1 day ago
I'll just say that having something tattooed on your forehead shows a pretty significant lack of judgment. I'm open to having my mind changed but yeah... especially if you work in a job where you have to interact with members of the public that's a tough sell.

It just seems like arbitrary line drawings to say forehead is bad, but neck is okay, or neck is okay, but forearm is bad, or forearm is okay, but shoulder is bad. Now, if you want to make the argument that tattoos you can easily cover when necessary are okay, but ones you can't art, -- that seems like a criteria that could have some innate differentiating rather than just location, but that's exactly what OP said, "noticeable tattoos".
by Anonymous1 day ago
Same would apply to say, a crucifix, or a hijab, or a piercing I suppose?
by Anonymous1 day ago
Yes, maybe, yes.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Why do you think the tattoo makes someone less professional?
by Normal_Use_40081 day ago
A wolf is your line?
by Anonymous1 day ago
Like I said, it doesn't affect how good or bad a teacher is, It just affects how professional they look. My best teacher did not look professional and I did not take them very seriously, but I loved and learned the most from that teacher.
by sengerkeagan1 day ago
Exactly my point, I still took mine seriously because the tattoos didn't matter.
by Anonymous1 day ago
You seem like a very shallow, very judgmental person. I think people like you will always find something to pick apart or complain about in order to make yourself feel like others are beneath you or don't deserve respect. It's a failing in who you are.

Welcome to 2025
by eraroob1 day ago
its probably less common to NOT have a tattoo these days. An unpopular opinon, indeed. PS i have a knuckle tat and parts of my upper arms tattooed have been employed in several different offices over the past 15 years. No ones ever breathed one word about it.
by Anonymous1 day ago
why? none of your reasons make sense
by Entire-Teacher83061 day ago
If you can't talk to someone as if they're a serious person simply because they have a tattoo of a wolf on their arm, then I don't consider you a serious person.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Oof, imagine still thinking someone with a tattoo is unprofessional in 2025 lol. Are you also still yelling at the clouds about men with long hair, or women wearing pants?
by Kind_Break51401 day ago
Have you tried dying mad about it?
by Kihnlavinia1 day ago
If you can't interact with people who have a tattoo, that sounds entirely like a you problem. Honestly, it sounds like you're doing us tattooed folks a favor.

Okay Boomer

Idk why teachers should be seen as 'professionals,' and that is no shade to teachers! In my country, we use their first names with no 'Sir' or 'Miss.' I think it improves teaching because we students can relate to them and see ourselves in them. My favorite teachers have tattoos, and that has never created any negative perception of them.
