This is a pretty popular opinion nowadays. I don't think they suck, but then I don't like thrash metal in general, so it's hard for me to say they're worse than any of their contemporaries, who are equally cheesy. I do somewhat like their album with Lou Reed because it is funny and I am a contrarian. That's the real unpopular opinion.

As a die hard metal fan, I also cannot understand why Metallica got so big. Their famous hits are so overplayed that they just give me PTSD. Their B-sides are just unlistenable. Apart from that, everyone in that band sounds like a complete jackass, except for Trujillo

They go so big because of their talent AND live shows. Like most successful bands, if you have stage presence and can get the crowd eating out of the palm of your hand, then you're on to a winner.

Man, u got me fired up, lol! Sure, Metallica ain't every metalhead's cup of tea, but c'mon, you can't ignore their impact on rock history. As for 'Nothing Else Matters', it's a gateway drug for those fresh to the genre. Not all of us jumped in headfirst into thrash, y'know? Each song hits different, dude. Some days u want the fast riffs, other days u just vibe with the mellow stuff. Just my 2 cents tho, no hate bro.
