Its not grilled cheese. Its a cheese sandwich. That has been grilled. And just to kick it up a notch, you can put whatever you want on it and its still a grilled cheese sandwich.

I think "grilled cheese" is just short for "grilled cheese sandwich", meaning a cheese sandwich that has been grilled. I'm not a native speaker, though.

....its a grilled cheese. everyone will say its grilled cheese.

Every sandwich is named after the ingredients. A cheese sandwich isn't food sandwiched between two slices of cheese. A ham sandwich isn't food sandwiched between two thick juicy cuts of muthaflippin' ham. A grilled cheese sandwich follows the same rules as all the other sandwiches, it ain't special.

But it's a cheese sandwich. That you then grill... it's really not that hard to understand

In the UK we have a version called cheese on toast. Or if you're being extra fancy, you can pour on some Worcester sauce and call it a Welsh rarebit

Next thing he's gonna say is that a Beef Wellington doenst contain any wellingtons so the name is wrong

Outside the US grilling is broiling. So maybe it's broiled cheese instead of grilled cheese?

by WhereasCommercial282 2 days ago

If it's US it shouldn't be called cheese either.
