Rich people don't become or stay rich by saying "okay, now I have enough money" The term "lifestyle inflation" wouldn't exist if people were happy with what they have.

Counter argument: politicians should be paid minimum wage in their respective markets. If it's not a living wage for them, then it shouldn't be acceptable for their constituents.

If it paid minimum wage then barely anyone currently in a professional, managerial or technical field would want to do it. If you had a spouse and family to feed, would you take a massive pay cut to be a politician? You might say "good, more normal people in Government" but I live in a country where Parliament is also the Executive so we expect these people to run billion dollar projects and manage networks of hospitals etc. So I'd rather we pay well and incentise people with the skills to run.

If you want to pay them more, that's fine. I don't think if you doubled or even tripled the pay it would lessen the influence of donors and lobbyists though. To do that you'd have to severely restrict the activities of donors and lobbyists themselves.

I understand where you're coming from, but most politicians make plenty of money from salary alone. Paying them more is not the answer

That's what Singapore has in place for their ministers for the very reason you stated. The current prime minister is on $1.64m annual salary [source]
