+34 I prefer touch screens to buttons in cars, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I find I rarely ever need to take my eyes off the road. At least not more then if there was no touchscreen. Climate is set and forget. Cruise control is through the steering wheel. Everything else like GPS you sort out before you start moving.

I want a screen for CarPlay. So GPS and radio functions but everything else (especially climate controls) I prefer having physical buttons/knobs.

100% this. It doesn't have web 1 or the other, and it shouldn't! Some buttons make driving safer or more comfortable and we should keep those.

What about wiper controls through touchscreen?

Stalk, automatic, touchscreen and wheel scroll. On my car it's a mix of all of these and works well. It is set to automatic but if I find it needs to be adjusted I just press a button on the stalk and the scroll up or down using the scroll button on the steering wheel with my thumb. Never need to take my eye off the road.

What about heated seat controls through touch screen?

I'm from Sydney Australia so the winters are mild but through the touchscreen I have it set at the lowest level for maybe 1-2 months of the year and off for the rest of the year. I set it once and it stays that way everytime I get in the car until I set it to off which then stays that way till next winter. Might need to press it twice a year which is about 4 presses (2 to activate, 2 to deactivate) of the touch screen per year whilst I'm stationary. I'd rather not have a dedicated button that barely gets used.

I agree but yes it is very much an unpopular opinion. Wipers on auto, I pretty much never change the temperature setting. Can watch a movie or play a game while I charge.

#TeamButtons Screens damage so easily, I've seen cars from the 1980's with working buttons, I haven't seen a touchscreen phone from the early 2000's still working, I'm not taking chances with that.

Why? It's extremely distracting to have to look at a screen vs reaching for a knob which you can do without looking. Horrible take
