-44 Taking left over food home from a restaurant is trashy, amirite?

by Local-Today795 2 days ago

This is a horrible take

by Agitated_Pick 2 days ago

You can control the portion size a restaurant gives you?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

How do I order "less" of a single entree? They won't let a woman in her 40s order off the kids menu…

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I'm actually annoyed about this. If I'm travelling and I can't take my left overs, it is just food waste. I rven would pay the regular price for a kid portion but that's often not an option either

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Woman in her 40s can finish an entree. Maybe skip the starter or the bread?

by Local-Today795 2 days ago

Nothing like enjoying your meal less to ensure there's no leftovers at the end.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It just happens naturally. Just don't order more than you'll end up eating.

by Local-Today795 2 days ago

Already skip those things. Have you seen entree sizes these days? Some have the caloric needs for an entire day. Just because I CAN finish it doesn't mean I should. Sometimes I actually CAN'T if it is large or heavy enough. I'm not a teenage boy…

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Finish it when you can, or maybe order a salad. Many options that aren't trashy.

by Local-Today795 2 days ago

" order a salad". You just sound like a bitter dude who got taken advantage of on a date.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

A woman in her 40's could weigh 95lbs and could have a 1600 calorie pasta placed in front of her. This is just an idiotic take

by Gloomy-Garage-4769 2 days ago

How do you order less than the pre established portion size? How do you know the portion size if you have never been to said restaurant? What if you didn't order an appetizer and the entree is still too much? This take is hot garbage and OP sounds like a child trying to be sophisticated

by rosario93 2 days ago

I've never seen an entree in a restaurant the average person wouldn't be able to eat for dinner.

by Local-Today795 2 days ago

You should be able to judge how much food you want to eat, and finish your plate Yes because that's totally something you can do in a restaurant where someone else decides how much food goes on your plate.

by kovacekari 2 days ago

"I will be judging you and wouldn't eat out with you" Oh no, whatever will I do 😱

by Tremblaymalinda 2 days ago

Actual horrible take What if a person literally orders one entree / meal, let's say a burger with the side of fries it comes with. They WANT a burger, but because they physically can't finish the burger it's bad? It's not like they ordered two burgers and ate one, they just can't finish one.

by ProperWillingness 2 days ago

Then they should just leave it, but an adult can judge if they're hungry enough to finish the burger before ordering it.

by Local-Today795 2 days ago

Not all burges are the same size so what would they be judging off of?

by Kennylind 2 days ago

I've eaten plenty of burgers in my life and never had troubles finishing them, and no I'm not overweight.

by Local-Today795 2 days ago

So tf they order??? I just wasted money on a burger for something I may not know the size of or literally just the fact that then what do I order, a salad?

by ProperWillingness 2 days ago

What if I've never been to this restaurant and can't judge the size of the entree?

by Crazy_Factor9930 2 days ago

Yes, I'd like the burger, but only give me half of it, bc I'm not that hungry

by Gold-Path 1 day ago

Then don't order a burger. Simple.

by Local-Today795 1 day ago

I dont think I would care for you to sit at a table I do anyways. You sound horribly judgemental over something as silly as food.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You sound like terrible company.

by Melodic_Culture 1 day ago

You realize not all restaurants have variable portion sizes, right?

by susanna41 1 day ago

This is truly one of the most privileged takes ever, how did you manage to concoct a moral virtue out of wasting food?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I don't like virtue of wasting it on purpose. I have family members who purposely don't finish their plates to leave left overs, and I think that's also stupid.

by Local-Today795 1 day ago

Can I ask what exactly you find embarrassing about it?

by rosario93 1 day ago

Sounds like you're the one with the trashy family and are embarrassed by their specific behavior, not behavior of society at large.

by Crazy_Factor9930 1 day ago

Sounds like OP either: 1. Has strict parents that reinforce this belief and OP feels embarrassed/trashy because of the pressure parents put on perceived level of "class" 2. OP has "trashy" parents that he is embarrassed of and is swinging in the opposite direction

by rosario93 1 day ago

More likely a family of snobs.

by Virgie69 1 day ago

You have some bigger issues if something like taking leftovers home is too humiliating for you. Why do you care what others think of you so much? Why do you judge others based on simple behaviors like wanting to eat more later because they aren't hungry anymore? Sophistication is absolutely gorging yourself?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

do you not like to try appetizers? do you not realize how big main courses are? either way you sound really stuck up and possibly boring. Who cares what people do with the food they pay hard earned money for.

by Additional-Band8070 1 day ago

I payed for that overpriced food, so i will do what i want with it

by torpreyna 1 day ago

I forgot that the portion sizes are listed on the menu… 9/10 I take food home because I simply do not eat a lot I order one dish and I don't finish it

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Imagine being this privileged lmao.

by Economy_Oven_9646 1 day ago

lol what? This is totally normal and valid. I paid good money for that food. And the portions are often a mystery

by rosemary98 1 day ago

You should be able to judge how much food you want to eat, and finish your plate. That would assume that you know how big a restaurant's portions are before ordering, something that varies considerably from place to place. But even so, what exactly is trashy about taking leftovers with you? Is it trashy to not waste food?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This is the most beta thing I've ever read - you need more things in life to worry about.

by Icy-Constant 1 day ago

I'll take all your leftovers. And I will unapologetically call you out for throwing away good food.

by ismael29 1 day ago

In a pizza take away I can somewhat accept it That's magnanimous of you

by shawn50 1 day ago

Wow. You sound horrible to be around.

by Fabiola62 1 day ago

This is insane 😂 it would be wasteful if you didn't take the left over food home

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I eat out looking forward to my left overs. You have a very strange outlook.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

How does an adult not know how restaurants work?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You sound European. You also sound wasteful

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Oi, on behalf of us europeans... this guy, this is not our kind of guy.

by gklocko 1 day ago

It has seemed to very slowly become more acceptable but as an American living in France I don't think I'd have the nerve to try to ask for a togo box. I never eat out anyway so it's a moot point

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Well yeah, American in France. That is an whole other problem. Lol. Come to Croatia, we will pack the whole thing to go.

by gklocko 1 day ago

I'm German, so you're not wrong.

by Local-Today795 1 day ago

There are unpopular opinions and there are stupid opinions. This is the latter.

by cronaalfonso 1 day ago

Wasting food is trashy. Wastefulness in general is actually pretty disgusting to people who were raised right.

by LongjumpingRow3031 1 day ago

'We'd go out to eat with my parents' Oh, you're 12.

by bennett09 1 day ago

I'm 32.

by Local-Today795 1 day ago

Unmarried I imagine?

by rosemary98 1 day ago

You know going out with your parents as an adult is normal right?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yup, this is a child who sees their younger sibling wasting food and conflates it with perceived class. I remember when I was 12 I too wanted to be seen as intelligent and sophisticated

by rosario93 1 day ago

Cause there is a way to gage how big a portion is in a restaurant you may have never been to, right?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

wow, definitely unpopular. Like I know how big the portion sizes are at every restaurant to know how much to order.... I certainly wouldn't want to eat out with someone like you either.

by Daphneekemmer 1 day ago

I agree with you, OP This is an unpopular opinion

by Standard_Archer 1 day ago

I'm betting nobody really wants to eat with you anyway -Maybe your parents

by Tasty-Friendship-771 1 day ago

This is an odd take. Sometimes the portions are just too big. I would also rather take it home than let it spoil or thrown away. Case: we have a favourite local mom and pop restaurant we love to support but they always serve big portions. We go there so often, we just bring our own packaging to avoid them having to throw away food or use up to-go containers. When we have issues like food insecurity and food waste. Your personal take on decorum does not trump lunch for the next day. I understand there are still issues with plastic and packaging. As a server in the past, I hear two things when people leave unconsumed food: either 1) "what a waste" from other servers, cooks, and the owners who are throwing materials that couldve been used for another dish or feed another customer and 2) "did they not like our food?"

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You should be banned from that restaurant, putting food into containers you brought with you is beyond trashy. Disgusting.

by Local-Today795 1 day ago

I'm sure they have permission.

by terrancewunsch 1 day ago

Ahh yes because you can totally just go storm into the kitchen and force portion control on them to your standards

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You can't "order less" at a restaurant. And you haven't really said why it's trashy to bring your leftovers. I think it's actually the opposite, since you're making sure the food doesn't get thrown away.

by ComplaintFlimsy 1 day ago

OP's idea of ordering less is ordering something you don't really want.

by terrancewunsch 1 day ago

So you think it's better to waste food than to take the leftovers home? The customer has no say over portion size in restaurants, and there are a lot of restaurants that have huge portion sizes for everything. If you look down on those who take leftovers home, you're doing every one of them a favour by not eating out with them. Nobody needs a snob like that in their lives.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Wtf is wrong with you lmao

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The fact that this person actually cares deeply about what other people do with food they paid for is hilarious

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Nobody is going to date you

by Anonymous 1 day ago

"Waiter. I am afraid I have miscalculated. Please throw this perfectly good food in the bin for me, and discretely so as not to invite scorn. My standing in polite society can't survive another scandal after the embarrassment of accidentally snorting whilst laughing at Ms. Pennyworth's dinner party last week."

by Anonymous 1 day ago

How does someone else taking the time to carry home a bag and putting it in their refrigerator affect you in any way at all? It sounds like you are someone who puts some sort of image you are trying to present to the world as more important than the needs of someone you want to present the image of caring about . . .

by Own_Junket 1 day ago

Ordering with the intention to take food home on a date is low and tacky. But leaving food to be thrown away - when you could bring it home and not waste it — is worse. Food waste is a huge contributor to global warming. Methane is a worse offender than C02 emissions.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

My dog says you are incorrect

by Anonymous 1 day ago

What an odd thing to judge people about

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I mean I don't do this but it's such a non issue. What? you take the food you paid for to eat later? The audacity.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

How on earth are people meant to judge portion sizes on food they have never seen before? Just know it's not the women being the embarrassment for having left overs but you for thinking this.

by Kennylind 1 day ago

Sounds like a man who's dining at restaurants with Michelin stars. Anyway, it's a take, much more of take than his date is carrying away. For the sake of comedy, I hope your next date comes with a lunch box, I'd love to read what you have to say about that

by CompleteSummer6419 1 day ago

When my mom started taking metformin, I was shocked at how little she needed to eat to feel full. If I go to a restaurant with her, we really do have to plan to take home leftovers every time because portion sizes are just too large. The kids menu often sucks even at higher end places. It might come across as trashy, but I'd argue that it's healthier and better for everyone to eat what they're comfortable eating and to avoid food waste by taking home leftovers. Don't eat a full portion just because a restaurant says that's what a full portion should be.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Your mom should take your internet privileges away for a day or two.

by Kristian72 1 day ago

This is pretty culture blind. I know it's hard to get your head around but there are cultures where it disrespectful to finish all of your food, it implies to them that they didn't give you enough.

by Signal-Advice-6374 1 day ago

OP sounds like a real down to earth individual with a lot of self confidence

by rosario93 1 day ago

Well, you don't usually do it, but sometimes you really midjudge the size of portions and your appetite, and then there's no reason to waste all that nice food.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Not sure if this is rage bait

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Since you're the savior of the poor - is it permissible to pack up my leftovers and give them to a homeless man on the street? Or is that embarrassing for you and your parents too?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I've seen some truly bad takes on here. But this one is really pitiful. What a bizarre hill to die on. By this persons metric, if you're in the mood for anything less than 2 hot dogs and a soft drink, you have no business stepping out of your home to break bread and socialize with a friend or a loved one. Respectfully, GTFOH with your kindergarten philosophy and go enjoy looking at a glass form condensation, or whatever it is a special mind like yours like to do for "fun". Alone.

by Heberkreiger 1 day ago

This is an opinion that comes from being overprivileged. It's amoral to waste food when there are so many who don't have enough.

by Virgie69 1 day ago

Borderline insane, but I couldn't agree more. Getting a box to go is major turnoff (romantic or otherwise)

by Murraymurray 1 day ago
