+35 Dexter's OG finale WASN'T bad at all. amirite?

by Jerrodroberts 1 day ago

That season isn't even over yet…

Holy crap, I didn't realize there's 3 spin offs now!!

Plus, it was an unpredictable finale, Dexter being caught, killed or chased would be predictable as hell. Maybe, but ultimately it's anticlimactic & unsatisfying for a ton of people. Predictable doesn't mean "bad" but anticlimactic & unsatisfying often do. A lot of the joy most people get out of watching stories about bad people is seeing how their actions catch up to them and seeing them suffer the consequences of their actions. A major draw of the show was seeing how long Dexter could avoid being caught, killed, or chased & the biggest issue with show's original ending is that there's no cathartic payoff; we're just watching a serial killer commit horrid actions & ultimately get away with it in an unsatisfying way.

They were just step siblings right? Half implies one shared parent iirc

Adopted sibling

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Adopted siblings but debs father still banged dexs mum. But yes, strictly biologically they weren't related

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You are correct. This is the same exact thing that happened in the show Flash, which people seem to have much less of an issue with for some reason.

I liked what it tried to do - him being in the prison of his own conscience was, on paper, a far more satisfying ending than him dying or getting caught. That said, they dropped the ball on its execution so hard. The entire final season dragged on its heels, it had no sense of finality, somehow feeling like even more of a filler season than 6. It's all smooth sailing until episode 11, then at the last minute they pull a diabolus ex machina to push Dexter over the edge. Nobody, not even Batista, dug deeper into LaGuerta's death. Vogel retcon was completely unnecessary and took all agency out of Harry's character. Hannah has zero bitterness over being betrayed. I could go on and on but I made my point. NB is somehow worse for ruining a much better build-up and rushing for a definitive conclusion, but season 8 finale was bad too.

I waited for 7 seasons for the big surprise reveal that Doakes was still alive and stalking Dexter, never got it. 😑

Well, it's definitely not good. But it's not uniquely horrible either. Other absolute stinkers include Ozark, True Blood, Game of Thrones, Lost, Killing Eve, just to name a few.

by Life-Technician762 1 day ago

God Killing Eve went so downhill it was insane, I haven't even seen the end I tapped out a season before

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Lost doesn't belong in that list imo

by Padbergerica 1 day ago

The main reason many of us were pissed about Lost is that the showrunners/writers specifically said they wouldn't do what they ended up doing. If they had simply avoided lying I think it would've been received better.

by Proper-Journalist432 1 day ago

I like the Lost finale, as in the episode itself, the final season was pretty bad though

I personally really enjoyed how it all played out, I was a few years late to watching and expected the worst but upon reaching the end I was confused why everyone was so upset about it. I still am tbf

Me too.

Remember how careful Dexter was in early seasons? By later seasons he is tied up in a boat miles off shore and it explodes, next scene he's swimming to shore without a care in the world. Dexter just walks through a hospital and steps an unconscious body (or was she dead, incant remember), rides a boat into the middle of a hurricane. By the later seasons he was basically a superhero in a world full of idiots that couldn't tell Clark Kent from Superman. Then to just become a lumberjack out of nowhere, lol. They must have loved GoT coming along and taking the worst finale title from them.

Even funnier that the spin off with his son had an even more terrible ending than the OG that they're now doing yet another series to make that one not as trash

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You'd probably like the ending of You then. And that ending sucked balls.

Dexter should of gotten the death penalty. It's set in Florida, the injection.....It was setup perfectly.
