I work as a debt manager and you are 100% correct (although I think you're being a little mean). It is truly astounding how much debt some people get themselves into, and it's way more common than most people would think. Having to tell potential clients "yeah I'm sorry we just can't help you" because after doing an income and expenditure review we realise that the person is literally never going to be able to pay off the debt they owe is a daily occurrence at my job. This job really opened my eyes about just how bad a lot of people are with money. It is so much worse than you could possibly imagine. You gotta be really careful with your money, this economy is a bitch.

Not mean. That's why I'm saying "most" people have only themselves to blame. There are some people who fall on hard times through no fault of their own. People getting sick without health insurance. People who grow up without parents guiding them through early adulthood. People who were born into poverty or very bad influences. As for the rest, they deserve some tough love. They need to be responsible, budget, and get out of debt.

Kinda weird how you started stroking your own ego for a full two paragraphs. Maybe your unpopular opinion should have just been: "I'm better than you." That'd be pretty unpopular.

Yes. When people spend their life, giving most of their income to banks, buying pointless things they can't afford, and getting into so much debt, just to impress strangers on Instagram, they are being dumb. No savings. No investments. No retirement plan. But at least they can show off their 19th pair of Air Jordans and a 2025 Mercedes Benz that will take 7 years to pay off. Truth hurts, and when another big recession hits again, it's going to be the responsible people who will be safe from it. I don't know why this is a hard pill for people to swallow

I have worked with easily a dozen people over my career who, when they get a noticeable pay increase, become careless with their money and end up in serious debt. This includes one of my brothers.
