Why would it be unhinged though? Like if I put you in a square concrete cell and all I gave you was a tire swing and a pack of cigarettes with a lighter. I guarantee you that you would be picking up smoking in a week. I get that smoking is bad but when your quality of life is so low I honestly don't see the problem with it I feel like most of us would take 5 years of an okay life versus 10 years of a torturous one.

You jump points and bring up random things that have nothing to do with it. You thinking something should or shouldn't matter is not actually an argument. My point is a fact. Or to put it simply: I don't care if you think it should affect the decision. We are not talking about wild apes. Wild apes wouldn't pick up smoking. You can't make apes smoke either. Why does it matter what you can actually do? You said okay life. Like you said, not putting words in your mouth, you literally wrote 'okay life'.

I'm saying wild apes die earlier in the wild so I think it's fine for the zoo apes to use their extra lifespan to improve the quality of the rest of the lifespan. 3: That's not the part I said you were putting words in my mouth with.

Ohmygawrsh did this happen to be in Chattanooga? This was such a problem amongst the primates and visitors there that they took measures to make it more difficult but by then it was too late and they kept figuring out ways to get around it and outsmart them. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Cigarettes aren't an expensive resource, It doesn't take long to clean up cigarette butts, and every ape I've seen in a zoo is either trapped behind glass or in an open field with a giant ditch separating the apes from humans. Fair enough on the medical care though, I have no idea the complexities of exotic animal medical costs. My general idea behind that was that most of them would die of other natural causes before the real negative effects of cigarettes kicked in
