+50 Separating the art from the artist should be the standard and I don't understand why people can't do it. amirite?

The man is a POS, but the on screen character is entertaining and I'm excited to see where it goes. "not supporting a POS" is a completely valid take.

Case by case basis for me. Depends what they're selling me and what they did.

Bc by supporting the art you support the artist. thats the rason for me anyway. i know jk rowling wont go broke just bc i dont buy anymore HP merch. but im not directly contributing funding to the anti trans causes she puts money in.

She's the perfect example of this cause the money she earns through Harry Potter is directly being put into anti trans legislation with very real consequences.

I was a huge fan of the band Lostprophets back in the day until their lead singer was convicted of being a pedophile, and a particularly evil and twisted one at that. I scrubbed everything I ever had from them from my collection and I haven't listened to them since and I would absolutely go out of my way to make someone feel bad for still listening to them because of that sick f*cker.

All of this is context sensitive and there are very important questions that must be asked before interacting with bad people's art, like, are they earning money from your consumption of their art? Is that money being used to fund hate groups? Is their art personal to the point where it literally can't be separated? Does the art reflect the person's bigoted views? It's never quite black or white on either side and one shouldn't be ignorant to the consequences of consuming certain things under capitalism.

Work that doesn't involve interacting with the artist then I don't care. For example recorded music is fine, live music I would pass on. Books, video games, photography (that isn't inappropriate), artwork (drawing and painting etc) are all fine in my book too.

I mean, I get what you're saying... But personally, I can't listen to lostprophets anymore, despite being one of my favorite bands in high school. I actually tried listening again, and I couldn't bear hearing the dude's voice, knowing the despicable stuff he did.

You get that by "supporting the art" is supporting the artist? You're putting money in their pocket by watching/listening/enjoying their work. So you can have the cop out of pretending the two are separate, but its just a lie you're telling yourself to justify your back of moral fortitude

It's crazy how something can mean so much to you then you're told to forget it just because the person behind it did something bad. I get calling people out but the art still meant something real.
