Superman has three basic heroic plots - He meets a more powerful foe He loses his powers He has a question of conscience (I can only save Lois or the school bus) That's it. As far as his being Superman, a god on Earth, that's it. He can have daily life interpersonal issues, but he doesn't have to have super powers for that. What makes him "Superman" also limits the plots about his being Superman. There's only so much you can do with the trope. And that's why so many say what you are complaining about them saying.
