+51 People who act like their pets are their children are insane. amirite?

by Patient_Ad4810 2 days ago

people have different ways to bond with whatever they want. like i have this relative who lives alone with a turtle and she's a sweetheart "turtle mom" for sure. but yeah it's weird if you compare them "equally" like that.

by Smithllewellyn 2 days ago

What is

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yeah, but she's not really a "turtle mom", she owns a turtle. It's her property, and she can make soup out of it if she wants to. We don't think of ourselves as "bicycle moms" if we own bicycles. It's just a cutesy way to avoid the fact that people think owning a living, feeling being is alright.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Loving an animal the same as your child is insane.

by Aggressive-Set-4789 1 day ago

Who are you to decide that?

by janiyavon 1 day ago

That's cool, just means more love in my life than in yours! :)

by Anonymous 1 day ago

It means your child will grow up learning that a dog was as important to their parents as they were.

by Aggressive-Set-4789 1 day ago

I call my dogs my "babies", I like to spoil them, I talk to them and I take hundreds of pictures of them, also understand that they're not actual children and that it's not the same.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I think the humanisation of animals is a spectrum and somewhere people definitely cross a line imo.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Just because you don't have the capacity to love an animal that deeply doesn't mean that other people are insane. Also, people that brag about their kids are boring af.

by goodwinalexzand 1 day ago

I don't think op is even capable of loving her pet, if they see the relationship as simply translational, makes me wonder if they don't see all human interaction as translational, poor kids

by Limp-Ad6338 1 day ago

The thing is it really isnt the same at all. I het that its hard to fully understand. I didn't really get it until I had a kid.

by feestkira 1 day ago

I find it the same too. (had the kids first then the dog). I love my dog to pieces and sing to her. She's a sweetie and I'm happy every morning to see her smiling and tail wagging to see me.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Maybe a bit of ppd?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

not gonna bust your balls but get back to us when you develop an actual relationship with your kid

by Mammoth_Two1424 1 day ago

yes i just teached my 7 yo daughter to swim this summer, and the 16 yo to drive. wouldnt compare it to any other relationship

by Mammoth_Two1424 1 day ago

If you didn't have a relationship with them at 11 weeks old, that's so sad for you and your children. I pity you.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

im not the one comparing my kids to my dead dogs

by Mammoth_Two1424 1 day ago

Lmao sure man, great response to admitting you didn't love your babies.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I questioned your relationship with your baby, weirdo.

by Mammoth_Two1424 1 day ago

Idc one way or another because it doesn't affect my life.

by Pretend-Wind-4877 1 day ago

I will bring flowers to your hill! May you rest in peace.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I don't treat our cat like a kid or human. I do however treat him as family. But he's still a cat, the best cat.

by alecbeier 1 day ago

That's the best response, not the same a human child but still family

by Craig43 1 day ago

That's completely commendable. Nothing wrong with loving your cat or seeing it as part of the family, but I don't think it's on the same level as your children.

by Patient_Ad4810 1 day ago

I don't know, I act like my plushies and my plants are my children so that's something I'll never judge

by mrazjammie 1 day ago

Right now my two cats are my children but only because I have no children. One day I will, but until then my cats will be my parent's grandkids.

by dibbertisabel 1 day ago

💯

by Daughertyhelena 1 day ago

they get food, I get to pet them Hahaha oh my god they're not on the same level Sorry to hear that you don't love your pets as much as he loves his dog, that sounds awful /s

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The only difference is your brain is higher on oxytocin from your children than from your pets. Thats the reason parents love their kids, a chemical in their brain that tells them to. That's how the human species has survived. The argument could be made that loving pets is actually a higher form of love and intelligence because it isn't caused by a hormone tricking you into it.

by Kaycee65 1 day ago

I absolutely adore my animals but I never have nor ever will equate them to humans. I pulled out kittens from car engines, got between cats and dogs, nearly got run over for a cat and id do more for my own ones but if it was my beloved cat or a child. Even if I don't know the child I would choose the kid. Pets are pets. Children are children. They are vastly different even if they sometimes get put into similar drawers in a family structure. I don't think a single person having a kid and pet would say they are equal? Could be wrong but I never encountered it. It is always childless people that kidify their animals.

by reyna41 1 day ago

Nah fr no matter what, a pet will NEVER be on the same level as human child like cmon bro

by Worldly-Earth9037 1 day ago

I think people simplifying humam psychology need to go take some classes, lol. 10/10 unpopular opinion

by Anonymous 1 day ago

"Dog parents" are cringy af. I get the love for your pets, but if it becomes the center of your existence, your whole personality, you have some self reflection to do. Everytime I see someone referring to themselves as a "dog mom" I always think "ain't that a bitch, huh?".

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm in the same situation. I had the dog and the my child was born. I do love my dog and do everything for him but the love i feel for my kid is just impossible to descri e.

by alanisreichel 1 day ago

How did you give birth to cats!?

by CanInternational 1 day ago

Rugburn 😔🥀

by Tyreekmraz 1 day ago

Sorry. I love cats too.

by CanInternational 1 day ago

They are literally not.

by joanlebsack 1 day ago

Nuh uh, they're my adoptive children

by Tyreekmraz 1 day ago

Pretty sure you filled out an animal adoption form and not a child one. Call your cats kids children if you want, mine are family. But literally not your daughters.

by joanlebsack 1 day ago

Nah, they're my daughters no matter what you say :3

by Tyreekmraz 1 day ago

You didn't use literally so guess I'm happy

by joanlebsack 1 day ago

Sorry, they're literally my daughters ;3

by Tyreekmraz 1 day ago

*Goodmorning

by Tyreekmraz 1 day ago

They're literally not.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They literally are 😌❤️ I love my adopted babies

by Tyreekmraz 1 day ago

You literally don't know how to use the word literally correctly then.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I forgot that men hate it when women experience joy unrelated to childbirth in Florida

by Daughertyhelena 1 day ago

Your relationship to your kids is essentially transactional too. You provide for them, care for them, and in return they bring you joy and a sense of immortality as they carry on your bloodline. That said, I do think the dog parent people are cringy AF.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Right, my dogs carry on nothing. My kids carry on my legacy.

by Patient_Ad4810 1 day ago

In that way though. Your relationship with your dogs is more selfless. You don't really want anything from your dogs. You want your kids to represent you after you're gone.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I don't think that's the case, if that were true then I would only love my children if they succeeded me. I love my children much more than my dogs even though there's a chance that they may proceed me in death and not carry on my legacy. The love that we have for our pets I think ends at what kind of emotional bond we can form with them. The love we have for our children is unconditional they can backstab you they can denounce you and yet that love still remains at least for people with a normal parent child bond.

by Patient_Ad4810 1 day ago

True. I have heard it stated that the only truly unconditional love is a parent's love for their child. Though a lot of that hinges on the parent wanting the child to begin with.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

What legacy?

by Theresiadeckow 1 day ago

Your poor children, you sound like the parents that will dump their kids the minute they do something they don't like, the same way you would probably dump a dog

by Limp-Ad6338 1 day ago

Where did you get a hedgehog lol

by Downtown_Ladder 1 day ago

Internet.

by Patient_Ad4810 1 day ago

Don't judge people. You don't know what led them to that behavior, and it doesn't affect you in any way. Let people be who they want to be.

by boylespencer 1 day ago

The human pack bonding reflex is incredibly strong, to the point that some people treat inanimate objects as part of their family and because emotionally distraught about them receiving minor damage.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yes

by ankundingtrevor 1 day ago

I'd choose my cat over any human. Especially children. My cat is my son.

by Miserable-Bee 1 day ago

My mom cares more about her goddamn cat than her own kids

by novabeatty 1 day ago

Maybe her cat treats her better? :P Honestly though, all joking aside, my cats have treated me better than my own siblings. There is a reason I don't talk to them and prefer animals to humans. I've never had a pet hurt me the way humans have.

by Hershel42 1 day ago

This is not true. Fur babies should have equal rights as human babies!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I just find it funny OP is butthurt because someone 1-up him to a pet.

by No_Initiative9581 1 day ago

It sounds like your acquaintance was trying to relate with you in a conversation even though they 1) dont have children & 2) dont really care what your kid did.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This is only an unpopular opinion amongst the people who are crazy overboard about their animals. The rest of us agree with you. I've loved many dogs in my almost 7 decades, but I'd still rescue a strange human from a fire before I'd rescue my beloved dog. I'm shocked at the number of mentally unbalanced people who claim they'd do the opposite.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Why are you so competitive? Just say cool. Maybe that person isn't interested in hearing about your kid, just like you aren't interested in hearing about their dog.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Some of us just have more love to give, I guess. I feel sorry for your pets.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

My dog is a black lab...I have no say in the matter.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Disagree about relationships with animals being purely transactional. Animals obviously care for us and do provide for our emotional needs a lot of ways, I have a stronger connection with my pets than some of my extended family lol. But agree that calling them kids is cringey.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Makes sense why they wouldn't care about someone else's kid and try to relate it the best they could with the closest thing they could. I 100% would rather hear about someone's pets over someone's kids.

by bechtelarreese 1 day ago

Is it possible that you talk about your kids a bit too much and this person just decided to be sassy in response this time?

by nmraz 1 day ago

Yea those people are weird. And is the main reason I don't really care for "animal lovers" The level of care and responsibility are not remotely the same. Not even close.

by leonor15 1 day ago

I hate people like this. I know so many people who genuinely value pets lives over humans. It's disgusting

by Stock_Lavishness5084 1 day ago

If I saw a human drowning and a animal drowning and if I could save only one I will save the human

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Thank you, a lot of people don't think like this. I've genuinely asked people this question and they've replied I would save my dog I don't know the human….

by Stock_Lavishness5084 1 day ago

Well, between my dog and a random human I am choosing my dog. Between a random dog and a random human, I am choosing a human. Between my dog and a friend of mine I am choosing a friend.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

So you value a dog's life over a human got it.

by Stock_Lavishness5084 1 day ago

If you decide to read it this way then kudos to you, what can I do. I believe I explained the 'value matrix' very clearly. I value a dog's life much more than a life of a serial killer, for example. You don't?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The probability of encountering a serial killer is extremely low. So that's a dumb example in the first place. If I had to choose between a potentially random innocent human and a dog I would choose the human.

by Stock_Lavishness5084 1 day ago

I prefer animals to humans. This usually says a lot about a person, but not necessarily good things.

by Delicious-Tie2880 1 day ago

They are. I work in a public facing role, and 95% of the people that I have to deal with suck. The 5% who are good still give me a small hope for humanity. Maybe it's because I'm getting older and don't want to deal with people's BS, but most of the people I encounter are difficult to deal with.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

It is. In fact I love my pet dog more than I have ever felt love towards any human child and I do not even plan on making one. Pets are better than children.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I used to be like this. Then I had a kid. And as much as I love all my pets, they will never compare to my son. Hell, not even my husband can compare! Lol!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm American and other Americans surprise me every day with their idiotic beliefs that animals are above humans.

by Stock_Lavishness5084 1 day ago

Dogs live 15 years max but parents are supposed to die before their kids so no it is very much not the same Memento mori bitch

by Used_Unit_1635 1 day ago

I feel like this is an arrested development situation. Since having kids can be unaffordable and whatnot people are skipping that step and projecting it onto animals. But I don't think its possible to understand unless you have had a kid that it isnt even close to the same.

by feestkira 1 day ago

Projecting is really the word, same way I see people with ai girlfriend, skip the hassle for the same reward

by madalinemuller 1 day ago

In the same vein, I find it crazy when people say they would die to save their pet (and i mean those who say it in a serious tone). Not only do pets mostly live shorter lives anyway, but their death would only affect the owners while a person's death would affect many more people. And as much as some pet owner want to say how unique and special their pet is, their next pet will love them just as much because they aren't picky, they form that "special bond" with anyone who treats them right.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

People without kids have no idea what true unconditional love is. You can't possibly know until you do.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

So people can't love other family members?

by Theresiadeckow 1 day ago

Sure you can. But it's not the same.

by Anonymous 1 day ago
