+55 Snakes and ladders isn't even a real game. amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Which is why it is a good game for the very young.

Games of chance are still games.

by jakubowskijulie 2 days ago

Yeah, but games of pure chance with no skill are a waste of time.

Nah. Randomness is magnificent. Living is a waste of time too

Not if you win. But even if we accept this premise. This doesn't make the games not real games. Which was the original statement.

Its a game designed for very, very young children so they can learn the concept of rolling dice, waiting for a turn and basic counting skills and getting some sense of accomplishment for the win. It also let's children of all ages and parents play a game with each other where they can add it to what else is played on game night. Also anything can be a game. "Craps" is a game where the dice determine what happens entirely with the only input being what the player thinks it'll land on.

What?

for a 15 yo you should be doing better things than telling people a simple board game for toddlers "doesn't exist".

you tried to reply twice and you failed twice. do something better with your life.

Same goes with monopoly tbh. Everyone buys or builds whenever they can afford it so it all comes down to dice and the card decks. Many games work this way though. Most of the card games I know have only one obvious move depending on the hand you have and if you are over 7 you will play it. So in the end it all depends on the particular order of the cards in the deck in the begining. Doesn't mean you can't have fun playing them. People play dice too.

Monopoly is a lot more fun to practice head math than doing worksheets. Kids need lots of head math practice and with cash and Monopoly is an easy way to get that practice in. Also teaches kids to make sure the person handing them their change is giving the correct amount. Useful skill in the real world. Strange game overall otherwise.

It's still a game and one that's great for kids to teach counting and turn taking

by Haliedamore 1 day ago

This is a game aimed at small children. You'll notice that most board games for them are based on luck rather than strategic skills.

Gotta get them into gambling young

Agreed. When my kids were 7 and 5 I taught them chess instead of playing simple games that taught them some basic ideas. Screw Snakes and ladders! Forget Kerplunk! To hell with all simple games designed for toddlers!

by PainterNecessary 1 day ago

Here's the difference: Kerplunk is a strategy-based game, meaning the outcome of each player is completely based on their decisions, not those of some die or anything else.
