+63 Leather couches are absolutely horrible, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

What leather couches are you sitting on that are so hard and uncomfortable? Ours is more comfortable than any cloth sofa we've ever had (granted it's much higher quality). It's also a hell of a lot easier to clean and will last a lot longer.

Also makes him sweat? Leather couches are much cooler than cloth in my experience. Downright cold sometimes.

If you're a naturally sweaty person then you'll feel it more on leather, because the moisture will just sit on your skin instead of being absorbed by the couch.

Leather absolutely traps heat against your skin and can make you sweat

Makes my wife sweat but not me.

They get sticky quick in the summer. Gotta peel off of it.

I am not sure about the exact names, but for example, the last leather (not couch but a recliner) I sat on is HM Eames recliner that retails for like $5000+ and it gets very hot after about five minutes, also the inelasticity of leather makes it deel hard after a while, too. We were recently shopping for our living room, hence why I am going through this realization now.

I prefer leather because you can't sweat etc... into the cushions. Cloth sofas kinda creep me out in that regard, leather you can easily sanitize

It's annoying when I sit down naked and my balls get stuck to the leather

I am not a fan of leather couches either. They're not ideal when having children wearing jeans as well. And now that we have cats, I wouldn't want to think about leather furniture!

Real leather is soft and not cold. Vinyl is cold and very stiff. You must have sat on vinyl.

Sounds like bonded leather or genuine leather.

I'm picturing Frank in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia when his sweaty body bursts out of that leather couch 😂

If you have good quality drum dyed leather, all those things you're saying wouldn't be true.

I don't know wth that means, but yeah, if you've got a nice leather couch, these same complaints just aren't there.

They're fantastic if you're hungover and just want a nice cool, surface against your face that's not the floor.

I'm not sure why you're saying it's form over function, as leather sofas are almost always hideous. With the single exception of chesterfields.

I also don't like leather sofas. The one I have the most experience with was left by the previous owner of my house (which was awesome because I didn't have any furniture yet and was fairly low on money) so cost really isn't a factor with my dislike. I live in the desert so in the summer I stick to the thing and gotta peel off of it. I also really don't like the look. And I have a cat. She pretty much immediately started clawing it and I can't fix it. So it just looks trashy. At least with cloth couches the fabric has some give when it comes to that.

Too hot and sticky in the summer. Cold and stiff in the winter. I have never understood the fascination with leather furniture.

Leather is very functional. It wipes clean, no Cheeto stains on leather. My previous faux leather couch was pretty hard and firm. My current leather couch is soft and supple. The couch does not make me sweat, it's probably your thermostat doing that to you. I also love the smell of the leather.

Counter: Leather couches are great because we have dogs and they are easily wipable with a clorox wipe and never have to be shampooed. The couch in the front living room is cloth and is the bane of my existence.
