They are a lot warmer, and may make you sweat more, especially around your calves, so I don't know why anyone would wear them for fashion in hot weather, but you're right, it really shouldn't be much worse than any other close-toed shoe, as long as you're wearing proper socks.

I'm Canadian and have real winter boats you couldn't wear in summer and "boats", basically shoes in boar style. They're not that much warmer than a shoe, I don't feel my ankles get particularly hot either. I mean if you got socks on they'll be damp in the summer regardless.

I wear rain boots in the summer, have been in super hot clubs with knee-high boots, I work out five days a week and my feet have never been sweaty. In my half a century on this planet, I remember my feet being sweaty...exactly zero times. EveryBODY is different

I'm not a huge sweater, unless it's a hot flash. Even after a HIIT workout, I'm just glistening and the person next to me is pouring sweat. I'm a hypochondriac, so I see my doctors a lot. I'm perfectly healthy...although I do need a hysterectomy and my sight is horrible

Wear boots all year. The terrain and muck I go thru be it work or fun is not suited to your opinion. I say wear what you should and don't worry about OP cause I'm pretty sure she is a woman. Somehow women with all there shoes wear them for looks instead of function. Like let's go for a walk/hike. We might do 2-3 miles or more and she hits the trail in flip flops cause they look cute and 10 mins later needs a rest. Not all women but you know who you are.
