I get that. For me I am genuinely just in love with music. It's something that I hold quite personally for me as a creative outlet but also it just helps clear my mind and gives me something consistent to listen to. I have autism and with that comes sensory issues. So being able to control what I'm hearing is very helpful to prevent overstimulation. You just have to make sure you remain aware of your surroundings and ensure you look twice before doing things like crossing the road

I agree, I need to be aware of my surroundings when I'm out and about. Only times I listen to music is at home, work, or in the car.

I don't think this is unpopular.

I feel safer using all my senses to be vigilant.

Wearing headphones is definitely a statement: "I don't want to interact with you in any of the normal, incidental, casual ways that people interact in polite society. I'm in my own little silo, so keep your distance."

If that's what you think when you see someone minding their own business in public while wearing headphones, that says a lot more about you than them. I wear an earbud to control the amount of sound I hear as a way to control my GAD. You don't know what that person in the grocery store is dealing with. Let them be themselves.

Thats not what they said. They're saying even with their own headphones they don't like it in those spaces.

Music is like fine dining, it's requires an ambiance to truly cherish it. You wouldn't waste Pink Floyd on public transit, now would you?
