+51 Filming at concerts is stupid, amirite?

by TeaResponsible7125 2 days ago

I used to think this, but I know someone who went to a concert and filmed about 50% of it and held it at chest height so they could still watch it themselves while filming. Since then they have watched all the videos at least twice.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The last concert I was at, I did something similar. I didn't film half the concert, but like a minute or two of each song I really liked. I've watched those videos probably a half dozen, or more, times in the months since. The way that show opened was probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen, and I'm glad I have the video to remember it by.

by Everardotillman 2 days ago

outlier?? I respect them for holding it at chest height though.

by TeaResponsible7125 2 days ago

I always record one song at big concerts that I'm super excited for, not every single music event. And I don't regret it, I go back and watch every so often and it's awesome everytime, the memories are great. I have a recording from 2018 Madison Square Garden with the Foo Fighters playing a 7 min version of My Hero and it's one of my favorite memories to revisit

by pfefferforest 2 days ago

That's usually what I do, either chest height of just hold my arm up with my phone and watch with my eyes

by sophiaschamberg 2 days ago

Everyone behind you hates you and your arm.

by United-Platypus3750 2 days ago

Oh well I guess, I payed money like everyone else did. It's not like my phone is recording the entire show

by sophiaschamberg 2 days ago

yeah, that's what im talking abt. It's inconsiderate.

by TeaResponsible7125 2 days ago

How do you even see anything at chest high? I can barely see over the guy in front of me just standing normally

by Anonymous 2 days ago

yeahhh u get it. If ur going to film be nice abt it.

by TeaResponsible7125 2 days ago

Cell phones should be banned from concerts

by margaretta30 2 days ago

Live in the moment. Put the phone away

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I completely agree with you. I take like one 10 second video of my favorite song just to keep the memory then I'm good!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

So you don't agree with OP. Literally the opposite

by Sea-Act562 1 day ago

"I agree except that I don't agree"

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You missed the point

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Nope I didn't

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Lmao, calm down buddy

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm calm. Just can't fathom some people's reading comprehension

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You're not calm. Take a breath. No need to be insulting strangers on the internet.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yeah, maybe that part was uncalled for I'll give ya that

by Anonymous 1 day ago

yes they agree. that's like one video that's really short. I'm talking abt people who are annoying abt it.

by TeaResponsible7125 1 day ago

Lol make up your mind

by Sea-Act562 1 day ago

Yeah, it is a really stupid way to watch a concert. Waste of money really. Live the moment ffs.

by Crooksbertrand 1 day ago

I agree. A couple videos showing yourself having a good time is cool, but extended videos are ridiculous. Who watches them?

by Hour-Replacement4003 1 day ago

yess. just take a few videos of like u and ur friends and the artist and then ur good. like why are u recording the whole concert

by TeaResponsible7125 1 day ago

I mean, if you record one song you're still living in the moment for 90% of the show. I usually pick a random song in the middle of the concert, and I love having full song recordings. I don't have a ton, maybe 5 or 6 total, but I rewatch them once in a while and it's always great

by Schmidtjuliet 1 day ago

This is one of the most popular opinions of all time and at least in the scene I'm in it's gone from 50% of the crowd filming to maybe 5%

by Anonymous 1 day ago

if its so popular why does everyone still do it? "iN The sCEnE Im iN" ive been to so many with huge amounts of ppl just recording.

by TeaResponsible7125 1 day ago

right???

by TeaResponsible7125 1 day ago

Totally the same with fireworks too.

by kamrenthiel 1 day ago

I do this sometimes, when drunk. Then never look at the video again. I need to not.

by Lucky_Republic436 1 day ago

at ado concerts you cant film at all, and the atmosphere is amazing, and the official vids look so good when you see a lot of people using their lightstick and waving along

by Carlo13 1 day ago

No, filming fireworks is stupid.

by Dickinsonreid 1 day ago

People who film concerts are the same people who mix Old Forester 1924 with RC

by Individual-Ant5870 1 day ago

thats an odd mindset.

by TeaResponsible7125 1 day ago

Nope, wanna watch my fav song live front row over and over

by Makayla07 1 day ago

What else are you going to do with the storage on your phone but fill it with photos and video? A phone for texting and calling alone could be capped at very little storage and work just fine. And while I get the gripes about people recording at concerts, the desire to take photos of things is not some ridiculous concept like you make it out to be. You may be cynical and jaded but someday you may want to be able to show people who weren't around "back then" (such as your children) "I was there!" L take, truly an unpopular (wrong) opinion

by LingonberryMurky5302 1 day ago

I agree with him entirely. No different than when I go watch fireworks and someone sets up a tripod to record them (this one is more of a pet peeve for me). Who the hell watches video recordings of fireworks?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

People who are camera people like recording things

by LingonberryMurky5302 1 day ago

who the hell does not have a functioning memory?

by Fantastic-Slide 1 day ago

I'm sorry, what?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Just giving the artist some free advertising!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I respect people who keep there phone at chest level and record rather then higher up where everyone behind you is annoyed.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

While I somewhat agree, I also enjoy looking up live versions of songs to watch. And most of those are recorded by a person in the audience. 🤷

by Physical_Home 1 day ago

This isn't unpopular

by Cheap_Battle8876 1 day ago

I'm literally being ratioed as we speak.

by TeaResponsible7125 1 day ago

Ooh when the flash is on is when it really sucks. Sometimes a mistake and politely tell them and usually they'll turn it off. Other times they want it on and are rude as hell about it. Love it when artists ask to not film and it creates such a better environment. Went to see streetlight manifesto recently and shocked in a good way that not many people were recording. It was so nice. Social media sucks

by Sharp_Law 1 day ago

I don't like taking pictures, I feel so rushed and can never get a good shot or in focus. I tried the record from the chest trick, I just got the perspective of what I'm seeing if I were 6 inches shorter, which isn't much, and then the sound isn't always great, it'll be muffled in spots. Just not worth it, plenty of concert footage available out there to see if I want to revisit.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

ok, well good for you?? idk I think recording larger shows is stupid.

by TeaResponsible7125 1 day ago

I wish concert tickets included pro video footage of the show you just saw, after attending. That would solve the issue.

by Kitty69 1 day ago

Generally agree, with the exception of artists that play unreleased songs at their concerts. At the most recent Halsey concert she played 2 unreleased songs and I've listened to one of them over 10 times since because I like it so much.

by sipesdominique 1 day ago

OP is poor and has an iPhone 6 so they don't get it.
