A lot of this is why, despite my anxiety and other mental health issues, I force myself to speak up or otherwise intervene when someone is being harassed. We should all be waiting in line to do the right thing, but instead people would rather put their heads down and let the opposite happen.

bystander effect is incredibly prevalent: most people assume if something bad is happening, someone else is already doing something about it. doesn't make them bad, just a bit ignorant.
