White vinegar and baking soda for cleaning is almost useless, amirite?
by Pale-Measurement77682 days ago
That's because they neutralize each other. Use one or the other. Or use the chemical reaction strategically. The fizzy reaction is good for lifting dirt or whatever or even some some stains out of fabric and carpet. Fyi, diaper rash cream containing zinc oxide is an insanely good deodorant. A single application lasts for days. You won't find a single deodorant in the deodorant aisle that will come close to it in effectiveness or longevity. (You had mentioned smelly pits.)

wouldnt that leave terrible white stains on your clothes?

It's not bad if you don't go overboard with it. Just takes a really small amount, spread evenly and thinly.

I think it's good for certain types of clothing, especially merino wool, since it's very easy to clean and doesn't smell that much. I used baking soda to get rid of antiperspirant stains. I use crystal deodorants now.

Crystal deodorants…? Huh??

I completely agree. I wish bleach wasn't so toxic because nothing cleans like it lol

Vinegar is a very useful product and you can clean with it if you know how to use it correctly.

Yes, it is good for some applications, but people are suggesting it for literally everything.

You said "basically useless". Also what kind of white vinegar are you using? There's cooking and cleaning. Most normal cleaning ones are about 6% but you can also buy ones like 20-40% and those ones really clean and you need gloves / good ventilation to use them.

10% one

What I do is usually just turn baking soda to paste let it sit overnight then use vinegar to wash. But for mixing same time I only find it most useful for unclogging

I find baking soda good for removing sticky/oily residue from clothing. It doesn't really work for removing strong smells or stains though.
by Pale-Measurement77682 days ago
oh yeah BS is so good with oil but yeah with smell.. Vinegar works better for that tbh

Vinegar solved a mold issue for me before.

Yes.. op is talking about vinegar with baking soda, which just neutralise each other on contact. They have tons of good uses separately
by Anonymous2 days ago
That's right. Vinegar is a strong acid that can easily kill mold spores and similar. This is not cleaning stains/getting rid of smell though.
by Pale-Measurement77682 days ago
It got rid of the moldy smell. 🤷🏿♂️
by Acrobatic-Wallaby9372 days ago
Well vinegar kills mold so I'd say that works pretty well, and it also can kill a lot of odors including piss.

Agreed, someone on my floor in my condo unit absolutely DUMPS vinegar into their load of laundry it smells. I ended up finding out who it was one day in the elevator just by smelling her, what does that do besides make you smell like a distillery?
