+70 I think we should take all warning labels off 99.9% of everything and let it ride. amirite?

by Lednerdennis 2 days ago

it's never about protecting you though. warning labels exist for the sake of "we told them so" when a (stupid) victim sues the manufacturer.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

"we are not liable for the misuse of this product" Simple enough. I haven't seen a warning label on a gun but people with common sense tend to know how to use those properly.

by Content-Stand-121 2 days ago

Lots and lots of improper use too though...

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Right but…what's the legal definition of "misuse" on that product? It's all about liability. So then you make it so each product needs a whole contract attached to define what counts as misuse

And everything contains nicotine if you pour nicotine in it. Then technically all food should have a "not for human consumption" because if I put poison in it, I would die. With the vape, I'm sure even without nicotine, inhaling a type of smoke is unhealthy. I don't think smoking plan printer paper is healthy either.

by Content-Stand-121 2 days ago

Let's use some logic, a hammer can drive nails and pull nails (claw hammer). No way in hell would a normal person would think, "I should hit someone in the face with this". BBQ lighter fluid, used to light BBQ pits and camp fires. If you think pouring it on your slong and lighting it on fire is the "correct" way to use it, congratulations on your Darwin Award. I'm going to need you to name something that is too complicated, that a normally functioning individual would use it incorrectly. Something that is available to the masses.

Do you need a permit or license to get a blender where you live?

by Sydnistokes 2 days ago

I have bought a gun and only needed a background check. Not all states have a 50 question quiz to buy a firearm. States without concealed carry license

by Content-Stand-121 2 days ago

I've always wanted to put my hand in a blender, but thankfully the warning label has told me not to. So they're a good thing or else I'd have a scrambled hand.

by SockOk 2 days ago

It gives you a "strong hand".

by Lednerdennis 2 days ago

This one trick insurance companies hate. But no really, this is all so when you do stick your hand in the blender the insurance company can say did you not see the sign that said no to blending hands, what did you blend your eyes or something too?? We're not paying you a goddamn dime you filthy casual

by Accomplished_Art1455 2 days ago

Yah they were putting everything in the manuals. Then some judge probably said the manuals are unreasonably long now and no one reads them, and allowed someone to win their hand in the blender case with an argument the manual is too long and intimidating, and the colours and design looked kid friendly.

You'd have to somehow update lawsuit procedures. For instance, allowing "it's a freaking chainsaw" to be sufficient for a summary judgment to dismiss a lawsuit.

by Hermina64 2 days ago

I assume that if we take the warning labels off we wouldn't protect the idiots.

by Lednerdennis 2 days ago

I see that now. Everybody's getting really technical. That's on me.

by Lednerdennis 2 days ago

Seems pretty idiotic to miss such an obvious thing, doesn't it?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

If I'm not mistaken it's Jimmy Carr. I leave my mistakes visible.

by Lednerdennis 2 days ago

Also I'm owning my mistake and you're being a bitch about it

by Lednerdennis 2 days ago

I am just pointing out how you missed a common sense mistake.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I don't think you understand the point of warning labels. It seems like you would just like more people to get hurt. Thats cool, I guess.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Not all, but all common sense warning labels. Like on peanuts it says "warning contains peanuts" But if it is some rice meal that has some nuts snuck in with no indication of nuts in the description, that should still have the warning.

by Davissigrid 1 day ago

They do have an ingredient list which is not a warning label just a list of what's inside it in a quick twist of the hand in a reading of the label could tell you that there's peanuts in it.

by Lednerdennis 1 day ago

Your unpopular opinion is "I want a bunch of people to die just because"

by Glendooley 1 day ago

Who said anything about dying? That's quite a jump. Yes removing a warning label equals dying /s. What about the warning label on a lighter? Is that gonna kill you?

by Lednerdennis 1 day ago

Yes no warning label does mean people will die. Why do you think they became a thing? Because people got badly injured and/or died.

by Dizzy-Company 1 day ago

Ok

by Lednerdennis 1 day ago

I remember putting 99.9% in my statement hmmmmm I wonder what that would cover. and you know you can read the ingredients list to find out if it has peanuts in it.

by Lednerdennis 1 day ago

No. Food items with no peanuts but made in factories that produce peanuts do not have peanuts in the ingredients but will still spark the allergies

by Glendooley 1 day ago

99.9% you are aware of how many warning labels are out there and how many .1% would cover right? Or are you one of those poor hot coffee in your lap people?

by Lednerdennis 1 day ago

Wtf are you talking about…

by wkiehn 1 day ago

The signs are put there by the companies usually to protect themselves. Usually cause they were sued. It's not like some parents group lobbying for these labels.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

... you read warning labels?

by margret91 1 day ago

Exactly, this one understood the assignment.

by Lednerdennis 1 day ago

It's a small thing but I take the time to painstakingly remove the warning labels from the visors in my cars. Takes a lot of work not to leave marks but makes the inside cleaner.

by Fun-Watercress 1 day ago

Another angle for lawsuits is manufacturers have to somehow prove their warning labels or warnings in manuals are effective. If they don't provide any real legal protection then there'd be no point in adding them.

by Hermina64 1 day ago

But I wanted to be ambidextrous. How else can I get that way without a blender?

by Dapper-Water-2891 1 day ago

I mean I can't argue with you

"Coors Light doesn't think you can tell how cold your beer is! Here's an idea, if you can't feel feelings, no more beer." - Chris Porter

by emilianosauer 1 day ago

So what does Coors Light do?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

There was a point in time when the mountains on the can would turn blue when your beer got "cold enough".

by emilianosauer 1 day ago

I do hate the useless ones, like epilepsy warnings on video games. Either you know you've got epilepsy and understand Tetris Effect VR will give you anything from a headache to a grand mal seizure depending on how bad you've got it, or you don't know you have epilepsy at all so you're going to ignore the warning.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I think we should make heroin legal and ban narcan.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I think most people have articulated the point, but it's about money. As is nearly Everything in this life :(

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yeah, who needs to know if a product contains a potentially lethal allergen?

by Material_Yogurt 1 day ago

You ever heard of an ingredient list?

by wkiehn 1 day ago

Ingredient lists are not warning labels they are labels of what is in something.

by Lednerdennis 1 day ago

What would be the actual benefit of removing all warning labels? What would be gained by society? As the assumption that all human beings share the same level of intelligence or even the same amount of common sense is probably the most ridiculous argument that could ever be made.

by Johnniegreen 1 day ago

Thinning of the heard.
