Pop music from 80s and around is great. Pop music from 2000s onwards sucks so badly in comparison. amirite?

The thing is, if you're into rock and metal, now is objectively the best time to be alive. You have hyper-technical stuff, you have aggressive death metal, you have genre mashups that couldn't even exist in the past, and you have great production. Pure pop music, however, is often just boring, at least to me.

Seeing as Charli XCX wasn't around in the 80s this whole statement is 100% false.

Thanks for suggestions. I know some of them based just on titles - they are okay, maybe except of Pitbull - Fireball, I hate this guy and completely don't get it how he became so popular.

Pitbull is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. I love it because it's just fun, let-loose of all inhibitions music. The "WOOOOO" and then everyone yelling "FIREBALL" before going crazy dancing is so fun to me. I also think latin music is fun to dance to (ya gotta shake those hips). I don't listen to him in my free time but it definitely serves a purpose at parties. I also only hear great things about him as a person, surprisingly enough

Ok, I get it. You might be right. Although one thing - I am not a native English speaker and so are 99% of my guests so most of them won't catch the lyrical phrase anyway. But I've been already told to incorporate some latino/latinesque music, so maybe it's a good pick. I'll think it through.

Thanks, although I've got to work in English daily so you know, I have to adjust ;) I'll check out the rest.

An example is a song by Maroon 5 called Memories. I found that song to be really good. I like some of the songs by Jason Mraz too. I had to Google them to make sure they were considered pop music. Tbh, I have a hard time understanding what is or isn't pop music.

It depends on how old you are. Music once you reach a certain age, isn't made for you anymore. It just doesn't sound the same. The same way saying things like skibidi, no cap, and fire make no sense to me.

I'm 25. "Born in a wrong generation" type of guy, I know.

This a very popular opinion.

I don't listen to pop much, but Somebody That I Used to Know and Pink Pony Club are two of the best pop songs ever.

The low quality 80s music is just old enough to not be remembered anymore. At the same time, marketing has become more and more efficient so making something that as many people as possible like enough to listen to has become easier. It doesn't have to be the best, just good enough. Compare it with Michelin restaurants compared to McDonalds. Of course, the restaurants have higher quality, but every dish only appeals a lot to a small group. There is much more money to be made selling fries and burgers, even though it's almost no ones favorite.

Kimbra has at least five great pop songs on her Vows album. James Blake has a bunch too
