But rarely do referees decide the outcome of the game except for the chiefs 2024 season
by Kaci952 days ago
And referees are somehow not included in your definition? How many times have they blatantly ignored clear rule violations either because they didn't see them or because they were biased.
by Anonymous2 days ago
It's not strictly their own opinion, referees have rules they follow. And if you've ever done sports growing up, you can always still win with bad refs
by AlternativeAccess2042 days ago
Judges in gymnastics have strict rules they follow too, just because you dont understand the rules, doesn't mean there are none.
by Anonymous2 days ago
A judge and a ref are two different things. A judge has complete control over who wins and who loses. If a judge blinks, that could change the entire outcome of the competition. Refs do not control the outcome of the game.
by AlternativeAccess2042 days ago
That's why they have cameras in gymnastics
by Anonymous2 days ago
By that logic any sport with a referee is not a sport.
by Ok-Paramedic39712 days ago
Any athlete knows it's possible to win with bias reffing. While yes, the refs do make bad calls, they do not decide the scoring.
by AlternativeAccess2042 days ago
I have totally seen a guy hit a homerun after a missed strike call.
by Anonymous2 days ago
Your idea of sports have referees who make poor calls all the time.
by Anonymous2 days ago
A sport is about physical competition. I don't like gymnastics but it clearly fits the definition of a sport. Is a boxing or MMA match no longer a sport if it goes the distance and to a judge's decision?
by Anonymous2 days ago
You might believe that this is what defines a sport, but that's just like… your opinion bro. Why do you get to define what a sport is? Also, people who have this opinion on judged sports don't seem to understand what judging in a sport like gymnastics actually entails. It's not just a judge randomly holding up a number. There is a very prescribed algorithm for determining score of a routine.

What is rock climbing?
by ClassicAd10382 days ago
Rock climbing is a recreational activity where a person ascends natural rock formations or artificial climbing walls using physical strength, technique, and safety equipment to reach a set point or summit. It can be done indoors or outdoors and often involves ropes, harnesses, and protective gear, though some styles (like bouldering or free soloing) may use minimal or no safety equipment.

I fell off a 100ft cliff rock climbing. Damn lucky to be alive
by South-Gur2892 days ago
Professional rock climbing is objective interestingly enough. They make courses with clear markings of 'get here for 1 point, get here for 2' kind of thing (to simplify).
by okunevareece2 days ago
Competition climbing is not the same as rock climbing. Arguably it is an entirely different sport, considering the movements have become excessively gymnastic and parkour-esque. Professional climbing does not exclusively happen in gyms, and many professional climbers don't compete at all.
by Intelligent_Bath19002 days ago
There is an objective component however. It's all based on a Code of Points which defines the criteria for each skill.

I bet you have a dumb opinion about Motorsport drivers being athletes too LMAO
by Big-Confection-61912 days ago
Motorsports aren't physical. I said physical activity.
by AlternativeAccess2042 days ago
I dare you to 5 laps in a race car and tell me it's not physical.
by Anonymous2 days ago
Lol, sure hon, as if no one's ever arguing about the clear impartial results in literally every single sport in existence.
by Comfortable_Mine_2732 days ago
There should be a separation of what's a sport and what's a competition. A sport should be referred to any competition that you can play defense in and competition anything you can't defend in
by Twalsh2 days ago
Well that's a completely separate argument then because that changes the entire definition of what is currently seen as a sport. That would make running not a sport, and that's pretty much the oldest sport there is.
by Anonymous2 days ago
Age of the event is irrelevant. Running should be classified as a competition
by Twalsh2 days ago
Track and field events aren't sports? Tell that to the lady who can impale you with a javelin from 70 meters.
by oren812 days ago
Its a competition. I don't give a damn how far she can throw a javelin that doesnt make it not a competition
by Twalsh2 days ago
Gymnastics is the best calisthenics ever. Full human physical potential put into action.
by Anonymous2 days ago
So boxing isn't a sport unless someone gets KO'd?
by Odd-Youth2 days ago
While I agree with some of your statements, a sport is not defined by the competitive measurement as such, but by the physical or mental effort. Motorsports aren‘t Olympic, because most of the physical effort comes from machinery. Skeet shooting is Olympic, despite of being very physical and much more mental. Chess is also a sport. There are competitions with clear measurements, but you do not physically workout in any way. Yoga (or Pilates) is a sport, but there‘s no competition to it (for obvious reasons). Mobile phone throwing isn‘t really a sport, but the Finns hat championships for that. So there‘s more to the term „sport" than how measurable competitions are.

Strongly disagree. Any constant active activity should be defined as a sport. Gymnastics, yoga, cheerleading, etc.
