The idea that everyone needs 8 hours of sleep in one go is outdated, amirite?

Virtually no one says that. Even the people who assume a night sleep cycle of one give ranges, with 7 to 9 the in middle of the curve and but 6 to 10 still perfectly normal. And plenty of sleep researchers agree that it's a good idea to take naps when you are tired.

Completely agree. 6 hours at night followed by a long 2-3 hr nap was standard in northern Europe during the winters. The extra sleep would then be cashed out in the summer when the sun was out all day.

Hey, it's your body, you can tell what works for you. What's important is being able to tell "feeling rested" from just being alert due to increased cortisol levels.
