I am a bit confused. Many animals in a zoo cannot live in the wild due to being imprinted or injured. Aren't they imprinted... because they were born in a zoo? Also, if many animals in zoos are like that, which implies not all of them, how do you reconcile the rest?

I say many because a lot do end up back in the wild after being rehabilitated. The imprinting I'm referring to is from those backyard type zoos where people are not qualified to be taking care of the animals. Think tiger king. But also, some animals are injured, go to rehabilitation, and become imprinted during that rehabilitation process. There's no winning in that scenario as the animal either dies in the wild from the injury or they live with humans after being rescued.

I agree especially with the last part. People forget that one of the intended purposes of zoos is to make you care about the often foreign and endangered animals you wouldn't otherwise see.
